So I decided to wash my car myself yesterday, and pulled out the power washer..... I knew my engine compartment was extremely dirty since it hasnt been washed all winter and thought what the ****..... popped the hood and gave it a soaping with rainx car wash, followed by a power wash rinse to get all the grime out of the compartment.
When i was finished i took the car for a drive down the road at 65 to blow all the beads of water off the car and then returned home to hand dry the remainder of the water beads. Parked the car and all was good. Then about 2 hours later we came out in the garage to leave for dinner and low and behold i have a solid CHECK ENG light, and a blinking VSC OFF light. WTF !! So i start reading all over the forums and internet only to find instructions to reset the computer by removing the battery connection for a short amount of time and reset it. So i did..... and low and behold they went away. Then this morning i started the car and they were back.... WTF !!! I have no loss of power and car is running just as i did before. No loss in MPG.... and just no indications of any kind that there is an issue mechanically. I know the water is somewhere on some sensor giving a false check engine and just not sure where to start. Anyone else have a similiar issue ?? Oh by the way.... 2009 Scion XB2.... thanks in advance !

Search the forums for the 2008 wiring harness issue. If I remember correctly, it had the same symptoms. I believe one of the connectors was bad. If you can find out which plug, you could open it up and dry out.

Well so far I removed both main harnesses up in the engine compartment and blew them out with air. Disconnected the battery again to reset the computer. And so far the check engine light is off. Started the car three different times and the check engine light didn't come on. So I guess I'll see you after a day or two if that fixes the problem hopefully there's not a bigger issue.

If this keeps the lights off, I'd recommend getting some dielectric grease at the FLAPS, and disconnect the harnesses (All connectors you can reach) and put that stuff on all connectors.... keeps 'em from corroding and getting wet.... win/win.
Hope it's all good for now, that makes about 3 days without a reply. Good luck. |
