Default Chop Top/truck conversion

Aloha,
its been a long while since I last posted on this site.

The last time I posted a huge project involving my XB was when I did a chop top on it about 3 yrs ago...

So presently I decided I wanted a pick up truck.and since I did not want to get rid of my scion to make room for a mini pick up, I decided to make my own out of the XB..............oh..I decided also the roof line was to high.........again, so we went down another 4 inches chop off the roof!! So, combined with the 6 1/2 inches we went down with it 3 yrs ago...for a total of 10 1/2 inch chop top..............

for all full Build pics go onto my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/kalani.young.735?fref=photo

so this is how far we've got so far this past weekend. Including is a photo shopped pic of what it would look like without the door lines and with some of the side panel in place.

The other pics is of my buddy whos doing the welding and holding up the back window where it will be placed once its done. the rear window will still function as it did when it was part of the rear hatch with a door popper release remote.

I don't think it's Facebook, it's because the xB2 is old, has not been kept up to date, and at this point, is a dead end. Also, people have written Scion off as a dead brand, no longer interesting.

It's too bad. Toyota could have (should have) made the xB2 more competitive with the Kia Soul by upgrading the drivetrain to the TC2 drivetrain, enlarging the fuel tank, and upgrading the rear axle. But instead they let the basic design carry on for 8 years. 8 YEARS. Some cars go thru a refresh and total redesign in that time.

I think you will see a resurgence of interest in the 2nd gen xb once the prices come down and the kids who want one can afford to buy one, THEN we will see more fun aftermarket items for the xb...and I have to disagree, i bought the xb BECAUSE of its simplicity...its something new that I can work on...its basically a large VW mk2 , which is what I owned for 25 years before coming to the Scion xb...i wanted a new car as simple to work on and maintain as a 1985-1992 VW Golf/Jetta, and thats what the Scion xB is...I love it!

Hawaiian Punch, your car is simply awesome, I love what you've done with it, and the mini truck look works really well...cant wait to see it finished...
