I use my S mode all the time too..... but here's one that needs an answer... and Jack seems to have a bit more knowledge on this stuff.....

I like to coast down lock inclines..... Will it hurt my Transmission, to throw it up in Neutral when i get to the top of one of them Monstrous overhead bridges (Bic curving interstate intersections).... and coast down to the point I'm slowing to surrounding traffic speeds... then put it in Drive?

Just think, Coasting, and throw in Drive at around 60-65 mph..... Is that going to Screw my Transmission up? or will I be OK.....

I drive some crazy long drops like that (DAILY), and have done it a few times..... it increases your MPG's big time..... LOL at least temporarily.

i doubt it would hurt anything, but it may not be worth taking a chance.

Im confused on the s mode. How can you go into 4th in S mode, when it tops out in 3rd? in order to get into 4th, u have to switch back into D

No, just up it to forth, the same way as going from 2 to 3.

it does go into 4th, but why then is it programmed to drop into third at highway speeds, for example, when going from D to S? Seems stupid

It helps me at least going high way speeds when switching into S mode. If you are going highway speeds and need to pass up someone or get a decent boost in speed, switch over to S mode and it will be in 3rd. This will make your car going some what faster to accomplish whatever you are doing.
