The problem is that the factory superchargers were discontinued quickly (bearing issues), then the $5K turbo was dropped right as 5 year loans were nearing the end. So, both are far more rare than they would be had they been on the market 2-3 years longer.
Once people get their cars get paid off or bought cheaper they then afford more expensive mods. Both were fairly expensive mods, but worth the price for what they were (well, as were designed in the case of the bearing-shot TRD blower).
$3-5K on a sub $20K car are relatively expensive ...
As for the difference of xBs vs tCs, xBs tends to attract people who either have more hobbies to bring with them or have families and HATE minivans. Either way, the person likes/needs the larger interior over a tC. Also, both have financial drains other than the vehicle, so they can't dump as much of their money into their rides.
The other part of the market uses the xB for other things than power-driving.
These are generalizations, so, please, no one get offended by that ...
I'm curious in this thread, but don't have the technical knowledge to help, so I looked but didn't read. One day, I'd be interested in a blower on the B-> a real sleeper.
