Look at the first picture contained in the very first message of this thread. The Scion head unit is a bit wider than a double DIN head unit by about 3/8" on each side. So you will need some kind of kit to mount an aftermarket double DIN head unit into the dash, if for no other reason, to fill in the gaps. (Someone jump in and say something if I'm mistaken.)

yup, my double din unit needed a mounting kit, it's not uncommon.
