Not an option. Right now near as I can tell after putting 5k down and payments I made so far I have about 1k of positive equity in the car. So trade in is not going to happen. Now I remember why I drove beaters lol

I am going to a few local shops where I know people who own them or work there and getting estimates and seeing if they will pin down what is going on with the paint AND put it on the estimate. Then provided they see what I see with the paint bubbles UNDER the paint I am going to a lawyer and see if I can sue Toyota for either a full strip and repaint or replacement of the car with a new identical one or fair market retail value so I don't totally lose my shirt on it and they can do what they want with it.
For the record I paid 13,499 with 20,500 miles and 14 months of warranty left on it, put 5k down took it for 6 years (I know but I wanted low payments) at 160 a month. I pay an extra 50 a month on it, and I currently owe 9300 and we buy any car dot com offered 9500 for it due to it needing "extensive", as they put it paint work. Quite a loss for anyone who is just working to keep the bills paid and stay afloat.

I took it to a friends shop and he agrees with me it is paint contamination and said he was surprised they won't cover it. He said the paint is pricey and I would be around $900 to fix it. He also pointed out a spot on the right quarter panel I did not notice that paint is cracking like a spiderweb no ding or dent there just paint cracking.Neither he nor myself saw any evidence of prior paint work anywhere on the car. His advice was to either get a full strip and repaint or just get rid of it and take the loss. What a disappointment this car is!!!

The build quality of the overall car is great. I took a trip to the Poconos last weekend and got 36 MPG on the return trip on the turnpike and car runs flawlessly. The paint is horrible and scratches if you look at it too hard. Interior seems pretty well put together so far. Mechanically it is solid as well. I just cringe writing the check for a payment knowing it looks like it 7 or 8 years old already and it is just 2 years old. I maybe too picky but I have had many other cars new and used(well used in most cases) that fared better than this at higher miles and older than this.

I tried to make the paint on this a bit nicer yesterday with mixed results. I got a DA polisher and some pads and Griots Garage Polish #1,2,3 and Best of Show Wax and some other supplies. Washed the front end with dish soap to strip and wax etc off and then clayed the entire front end as the paint felt like sandpaper, after that paint was nice and smooth but had plenty of spider web scratches and swirls.

I proceeded to polish the hood and use best of show wax and it looks like glass BUT this paint has so many spots where it looks like it will end up just like the roof starting to appear I just finished the hood and spray waxed the rest of the front and called a quits. This paint has got to be the worst in the industry I have ever seen on any make of car. All the spots I saw appear to be below the clear to me and are not something you can feel with your nail and don't appear to be low spots where something attacked the paint. Since Scion refuses to help I am left with either living with an almost new car that looks like crap and I hate or just taking the loss and getting rid of it. At this point I am probably going with option #2 and cutting my losses now and getting rid of it.

Have you called corporate? My parents had a problem with an expedition they bought. Ford refused to fix it. She called corporate and the BBB. They next day, they came with a tow truck to fix the truck for free.
