If you mount it too high, you wont be able to open the hatch all the way.
lol thanks for telling me that, or else it wouldve been a disaster...

Reviving.
I want to get a spoiler but not one specific for the xb.
When you guys drilled the holes for the oem one or any other one:
1. how did you get behind it on the inside?
2. Where on the back end did your screws/bolts go in?
I tried finding instructions but couldn't find ones specific enough..
I just need to know where I can drill to put a custom spoiler

Mine came with the spoiler, but from reading others' install posts:
1. You just drop the back of the headliner. The C-pillars pull off. Open the rear gate, sit in the cargo area and look up. You will see plastic buttons. Those pull out to release the headliner. (I used those holes to hide the wires for the led strips I put there.)

2. Each spoiler should come with a mounting template that you use to mark where to drill the holes.

Here is a link to the installation instructions for the oem spoiler from TRDSparks.

Im just looking to go to a junk yard and find a sweet low one. As long as I am safe to drill on this part that I've highlighted yellow in the picture. what part of the hatch does the oem and other ebay ones drill into?

(also, don't look at the dirt : p that's about 15 min after a car wash in the weather im in)
(also the taillights aren't actually like that just blacked them out on my phone to see what it would look like)

The holes for the rear spoiler are located in the corners of the rear hatch. If you go to Sparks Toyota and get the installation instructions, it will show where the plugs you need to remove to drill the holes.

The OEM and OEM-style ones mount in the left and right corner of that area. There are rubber caps on each end on the inside. Watch out for the wiring harness. It some in through there as it runs to the rear hatch lights and so forth. Drilling into it would . . . be . . . bad . . .

Most generic aftermarket wings/spoilers mount to a flat surface, which would mean the roof itself. Access that by yanking the inside C-pillars toward the middle (don't have to be out, just enough to allow the headliner to drop some). Then, pull the gray (originally/OEM, though most aftermarket replacements seen to be black) push-in retainers straight down- using pliers is fine, as they are just ribbed/ridged shafts with a cap.
That would allow access to the underside of the roof for any bolting-on of parts.
