Default Are you using synthetic oil?

I've always used castrol synthetic. But my loyalty may stem from the days of toyota rally cars and the castrol supra in gran turismo. Lol

Other than that, I had a friend that had an engine rebuilding shop. After seeing the carbon build up in engines using cheap oil, it convinced me. It gives you a good feeling inside to see your engine is feeling good inside after 150k miles.

+1 for amsoil. Been a dealer and using it in diesels and gas engines alike for along time now and let me tell you that is good stuff. Great company too they really stand behind there product.

I'm old school and with regular grade oil run for several hundred thousands miles and the key was a filter not the cheap ones. What am I missing on the synthetic oil and just asking

Bob is the oil Guy seems to be the best place for oil info.

The short version is that synthetics lubricate a bit better and don't thicken up at cold temps like dino oil. Synthetics also can run much longer between oil changes. BMW recommends 1yr/10k miles, but I think that's pushing it a bit.

I keep thinking about getting an oil analysis so I can get a better idea when I need to change it. I changed the oil in my xB yesterday actually - used Mobil1.
