I'm not sure about the paint protection. The Mini dealer sold it to my wife for her car. I don't think it did much though. Isn't that was a good, quality wax is for?

As for tire protection... it depends on how much it is vs the cost of a new tire and/or wheel (and the condition of your roads). Again, the Mini dealer sold it to my wife. Within 6 months a tire had a bubble in the sidewall - probably from a pothole. The tire was replaced no questions asked. The insurance paid for itself with one tire.

Wheel/tire insurance probably doesn't transfer if you buy different rims, so make sure you like the ones you get with the car.

Good Luck!

I would pass on the dealer's "offer". Stay clear of potholes and keep your car waxed......put the $800 into mods for your Box.

Maybe you should call a local reputable body shop. Ask if the paint protector actually does any good. Maybe they can even give it to you cheaper than the dealer if you really want it.

Is it something like this?

Definitely a RIP. Avoid at all costs. It costs them about $75.

I don't know about road salt because I am from the west coast but I shoot wd-40 on the undercarriage of my impala so when it comes time to wifey the chrome undercarriage the wd-40 allows it to shine in one wipe. I wonder if it would offer the same protection for salt

It depends on the type of "protection" plan you get. My dealer give a one year Protectall plan on all new scion's. But I went with the 3 year plan because they will fix any dent/dings, scratches on the outside. And any tare's/burns, scrapes on the interior at no charge (since I've basically paid for it before hand). And as cheap as these cars are the extra 600 bucks on both of my xB's wasn't an issue for my wife and I.
