Hello, I'm about a month old owner of an 08 xB and so far I haven't been able to figure out the ipod connection. I first had a new ipod touch nano (the little square one) and I ordered the cord that fits my car. When I plug it in "Ipod Direct Connection" appears on my headunit. I'm able to control my ipod and everything plays through the speakers fine, but I'm not able to control and navigate through songs through my headunit/steering wheel.
I then went and ordered the scosche passport thinking this might help, but I still wasn't able to control through my head unit. So after doing some research I thought it was because I had a new ipod and only the older ipods were able to interface and let you control through the head unit, so I went on amazon and bought a used 3rd gen ipod. But still no luck.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm able to play songs through my speakers, but every time I want to change songs I have to do it through my ipod. I read you should be able to control through the head unit/steering wheel.

First off welcome!

if I remeber correctly its in the settings on the radio. You can turn the direct connect on a off. My daughter messes with it constantly so im not possitive with way it should be so you can control it from the radio . Sorry im not much help other than to play with the radio settings.

With the ipod connected? Should be a few more options In there... I dunno then. If you have it playin and no other options to pick from than the basic bass treble balance and fade controls, im not sure of what else the issue is. Sorry

1. Which radio are we working with? There are 3 options, basic (2 knob), premium (1 knob), and touchscreen/DVD/Map.
2. Which gen 3 iPod? An internet pict that looks like it would be helpful. There were several.
3. When you plug in the iPod, it should say "iPod Connected," whatever iPod is used. The difference is whether or not it charges. All but the newest (different connector shape) should still work with the controls.

Tell us the radio model, and someone should be able to locate a radio manual for you. That would be helpful in the future too.
