I know this is an old post but I think I have the answer. When you connect an Ipod using the AUX port the radio will not detect the device as an IPOD. The AUX port is meant to connect any type of MP3 device, it simply outputs the audio the the speakers much like connecting headphones outputs the sound through each ear bud. The port is a "dumb" port meaning that it does not have the capability to detect the type of device that connects to it. Its purpose is to output audio not directly interface with the device. As far as getting the audio to play, you have to select AUX/SAT button and press play on the IPOD. In contrast the IPOD port is a "smart" port which uses an cable that directly interfaces with the device connected. This is the only time the radio will show the ipod as being connected.

Hope this info helps a bit.
