Right now my exhaust set up is; resonators removed, front muffler converted to glass pack and back muffler removed. I want to go full on and remove the cats. My question is should I get headers that delete the cat or could I just save money by putting a test pipe where the cat is. I drive a 2011 scion xb so the cat is connected to the manifold.

If you want to go the cheapest way, pick up an header on eBay and bolt that on.
Weapon-R makes a catless header + S-Pipe that will fit nicely on your xB.
Strup used to make catless headers too, but they were discontinued.

And to answer your question, I don't think a test pipe would be a cheap option in that case.

i did the straight pipe from spipe all the way to the back i will tell you it was super loud had to go from 1-3 gear so it can be a bit quiet but it was still super loud.

no test pipe just get a header

i have aftermarket header and my exhaust is with scuba delete with 2.5" pipe+ tip. And it was so loud that i couldn't hear my radio. Then i went to muffler shop and installed big muffler. Its still loud but its way better, now i can hear words that coming out from my speakers lol.

i have been pulled over many times due to my canister exhaust and only once got a ticket that cost me $480 plus had to get the car smogged cause it didnt pass the Sniffer test by a city cop. put everything bcak to stop and passed with flying colors now i am back with all the mods until i need to smog the car again. hate CALI Emissions Laws

So i had a question. I just installed a flowmaster muffler (not exhaust, just the muffler). Would it be smarter to simply replace the catylitic converter and leave the headers, or ONLY replace the headers? I want it loud but not to the point of attracting too much cop attention (i live in california) thanks

A lot of people around here gut the cat but leave it in place. Anyone tried that? It's technically still there, just nothing left to halt airflow. Pretty sure you would fail emissions but you could keep your stock exhaust manifold/header and just run straight pipe from the gutted catback to the muffler. That's basically what my car has but I haven't messed with the cat yet. Too **** cold.
