Just purchased a 2011 XB and love it..however..it seems that when I let off the gas in drive the coast down acts if the brakes are on. Of course no emergency brake on, brakes don't seem to be draggging...is this a common thing with the 4 speed automatic drive train? Go easy please, new to the forum and thanks in advance.

The only time I've noticed it in my 2011 is when I'm in "manual shift" mode on the slapstick shifter. Otherwise you shouldn't have it slow down in drive or "D" as it is on the shifter.

MyxB is a 2008 automatic and the first thing I noticed when I drove it was how it is how sudden would start to slow down when you I took my foot off the gas.

When I drive my other vehicle (not a Scion) it will coast forever.

Just the nature of the beast.

Toyotas I've driven are the same way. Honestly they are nothing like my Saab was. It used the engine brake to keep the manifold pressure at 0 to minimize lag when you got back to the gas.

Every automatic I've driven regardless of make engine-brakes when the foot comes off the gas when in gear (not as strongly as a manual, but it's still there). Only shifting to neutral ever gave me a coast mode.

My manual does the same, if you take your foot off the gas and don't push the clutch in it slow way down especially in 2nd you go thru the windshield.

It could be simple aerodynamics. The carolla I drove as a loaner coasted much better than the box. I knock it in neutral as much as possible to drop rpms in an effort to conserve fuel.
