I mistakenly posted this in the introductions section before; sorry:

So, did the headroom and legroom shrink in the 2011 refresh of the Scion xB, due to the new bolstering of the seats? All the info seems to say no, they're identical with the 2008-2010 models, but having sat in both and compared them a few times, I'm convinced the 2011 xB got a little cozier inside to go with the comfier bolstering.

Anyone know for sure?

yeah I test drove a 2012 from our Toyota dealership that the Internet manager brought in... she says she did a dealer trade just so I can see the color though I think she also wanted to see the color (Elusive Blue Metallic which is more black/deep purple) and it was rather tight fitting, but the 08 I just bought fits much better.

When I was visiting PREZ, I forgot to check this out. He has a 12 and I have an 09-> one each in the interior styles, even if I loose some space with the Clazzios. I'm curious as to any space decrease.

I do notice that the rear seat won't fold as flat with the Clazzios as it did either "naked" or with the simpler cloth bags.

how many cubic inches or millimeters are we talking about here? are we looking for real data or perceptions? doesn't the seat form to your body weight over time?

Thank you for the responses!

I'm talking about 1 to 2-inches less headroom in the front and rear, and about 1-inch less legroom in the rear seats, because the front seatbacks are thicker.

In the rear, for instance, the new bolstering in the '10 to '12 models has a big hump in the center seat--like in a Prius--and dips in each window-seat, creating the sensation of bucket seats. In the '08 model, the rear seat is a completely flat bench. There's no question the center rear seat has less headroom that the two outboard rear seats now; the only question is whether or not the center seat was raised higher compared to the '08 model or the outboard seats were scooped out to become lower than the '08 model.

But yes, the big question is whether or not the old seats in the '08 had bowed in over time and were providing extra headroom.

I should make it clear that I still find the 2012 xB very roomy and comfortable with a rear seat that's unequaled in this price class. If I'm right, it only shows how spacious this car is, that they can shave off some headroom and legroom and still have the interior space of a limo. And as a bonus, the new seats are more comfortable. But if I'm right and headroom and legroom were reduced for the extra bolstering, the difference should be noted in the specs.
