I bought a new 08 Xb back in May. Recently the front window area near the A pillars on each side are making a creaking sound. I have taken it to Toyota and they said that the cowl was rubbing the metal under the it which to me sounds like a load of crap! they used felt strips under the cowl to stop the rubbing and now magically the creek is back. it is driving me absolutely MAD :ranting: when i drive down the road! Does anyone else experience this sound in there scion?

Mine just started doing the same thing. Didn't do it when it was warmer but now that it's getting colder I'm starting to hear it. Mines only doing it on the right side.
Hmmmmm,,,I guess I'll never know if I have this problem...due to the fact that I don't go north of Punta Gorda, Florida (the frost line) during the months of November thru April of the year.

Same here, boght my '09 Xb back in july and i have noticed same click/pop sound coming from a front winshield in the area where A pillar meets dashboard. Also, i've noticed that when it rains noise goes away until it gets fairly dry than it comes back again.

I had a slight ratteling noise that was driving me nuts, after about 2 weeks I found a small stone in the sunroof area. Took out the stone and the noise was gone. Thats about the only noise I had.

I do not have a sun roof... so i know that it is nothing to do with a rock in that area. I am going to takeit over to the dealer soon to have them look at it again. It sounds as if the windshield is starting to shift around. It sounds a little stupid but you never know it might be possible. There is no way that the cowl is making all that noise. Mine started on the right side of the windshield area and now it sounds like it is all across the bottom and starting up the Drivers side. If anyone knows what it could be Send a shout!

So far the problem is FIXED... I took it to the dealer the other day and they could not figure out what it was and they started to press on the outside of the windshield and the cowl. Finally they could reproduce the sound i was talking about and they decided to replace the cowl with a new one. SO FAR... it hasn't came back yet... just an idea for those whom have the same problem.

Resurrecting this topic because...

The two pieces of the cowl did not mesh when I first bought the car. I could not get the dealership where I bought it to do anything, so I took it to another dealer just 15 miles away. They replaced the clips and fixed the center part, so it lays flat. Now, the right side next to the windshield made a tremendous noise while we were on the road recently. At 70 mph it makes a vibrating noise. I guess it's back to the dealer. As much as I love this car, there are little things going on with it that are starting to get on that last nerve.

i think mine is starting to do this. only on the driver's side though. of those of you who have this problem, how would you describe the sound? more like a creaky door or a series of higher pitched pops? maybe all this talk has just got me paranoid!

I found the TSB for this!!!
After having mine for just 3 weeks and the creak has worsened in this below zero temps, I Googled untill I found something. Found it on the 3rd page. It's a 12 page TSB that is a 2.5 hour job. EVERYONE who owns an xB2 should print this off and put in your toolbox or file cabinet incase this happens once out of warranty so you can DIY.

SWEET, karma.....

Just got home from my dealer and I'm going in at 8:30 am tomorrow. Before I left the house I checked the mail box and SCORE! Got my Scion certification cards! My mileage is 35,945 and serv adv said I may have to pay, but he'd call Toyota to do it anyway. Then I showed him the letter from Scion, 3 month/3,000 mile extension on new car warranty. It's all goooooooood!

As I read it the TSB was published Jan 8, 2008 and only covers vehicles put into production prior to VIN# JTLKE50E81030544....I'm not sure how the VIN # breaks down but many of us may have xB's that were produced after the production change that was to correct the problem. If someone knows how the VIN# breaks down that might help.

Before you rush to have this done, make sure it's not the black plastic piece that touches the windshield on the outside at the bottom of the windshield. I thought I had the "A" pillar creak last year and someone mentioned that if you put a little spray lube where this piece touches the windshield it will stop the noise.

I have noticed it started again with the cold temps and will spray some WD40 again.

This may not be the fix for every case, but it's worth a try before you let the dealer take your car apart and I believe they have to weld something.

Good luck.

Yup, I have the plastic vs windshield creek, but the other is def not a creek, more of a popping sound on right side only. Heard when suspension is compressed, like a 1 inch tall buckle or when accelerating over roughsurface. Wiper tray creeks at any bump, especially when under 20 deg.

I'm going to bring my camera with and see if they'll let me take pics of everything opened up and where the "tappy-tappy" happens.

Can't remember where I saw pictures of the xB all apart while doing this job. I do remember someone showing their xB after the dealer set it on fire with the welder while doing this 100+ step repair.

Good luck.

I heard a creak today, when i was loading my backpack in, after school. So, I opened the driver's door, and put weight on the door sill, and I heard louder creaking, and a few cracks, but I'm pretty sure it was ice, because it snowed yesterday, and it all froze today.

Okay, had a super experience at Carlson Toy/Scion. Took mech on test drive and he heard the pop sound. He did the 2.5 hr TSB, test drove, noise still there. Took apart dash, found a couple of possible ill fitted panels and mounting hardware(bolts, screws). Put back together, test drove, and it's all good! Total time at dealership, 2.75 hours all at no charge thanks to Scion Cert approval.

Sqeeky windshield vs wiper cover is not as bad as before, but it is also 20 deg warmer today.
