Ahoy there. The name is Brittany and I reside in Central Florida. I am a 20 year old nursing student working 2 jobs in the medical field. Aside of work and school my passions consist of classic cars, art, and animals. I currently own 2 dogs (black lab/staffy mix and a purebred OFRN american pit bull terrier) as well as 5 bearded dragons. I know, I know...enough rambling.

The reason i'm here...
Last Thursday evening I totaled my 2010 Ford Focus SE Coupe, with that being said I obviously am needing another set of wheels and after much contemplating and researching I keep coming back to the Scion xB. I am particularly fond of a couple 2009's available here in Florida. Now, just waiting on my insurance to finish up so I can go purchase.

Overall, I am here to look at mods, pros vs. cons, and personally opinions.

Actually, I literally came out of the wreck with a seatbelt bruise where it ran across my chest and a burn on my arm from the airbag deploying. The car did it's job in keeping me safe. I guess I should also state, the accident wasn't my fault, . It was a vehicle 4 cars up from me whom slammed on his breaks to make a last minute turn in the pouring rain -_- he caused a pretty nasty 3 car pile up.

the auto body guy was up to 9k of damage when he decided it was too much and totaled it out.

I love the idea of the xB having room as Tartan mentioned, it really is useful having dogs. I have 2 in particular that I have my eyes on here locally to me (4hrs away to be exact) both are 2009s and have under 45k in miles.

Got news yesterday that the car is physically totaled out so now is just the waiting game of the paperwork being completed, and boy oh boy am I ever glad I got GAP coverage on my car because with the figures the insurance company has talked I would have surely been upside down in debt.

Sounds like you are looking at used xBs, but just wanted you to be aware the 2011-2012 models did make some changes from the 2008-2010 models:

• front end (grill, lights vents)
• rear end (lights, reflectors)
• seats (fabrics, contouring, driver's armrest changed to center sliding armrest. bsmart changed his 2008 xB to 2011 seats and console and said it was much improved, check out this link http://www.newscionxb.com/139-interior-mods/9525-interior-exchange-2.html )
• added tilt/telescope steering column
• replaced engine temp gauge with a clock/outside temp gauge
• audio head unit changed (2012 has Bluetooth and HD radio)

Drivetrain, suspension, all mechanicals for 2008-2012 are the same. Have fun shopping!

Hi! Whew, glad you're ok, and sorry about the Focus.

This is a great site to check out mods. Tons of helpful information on that. You can troll around to look at other members' xBs for lots of different looks. For general pros and cons, you can ask away for specifics, but I guess in general I'd say that the xB doesn't have a lot of fancy features, but the basics are done really well. The big pros for me were the price, the space, and it is fun to drive. It seemed made for me with those characteristics. I thought I was in the market for a small SUV but I didn't really like the way any of them looked and most were out of my price range.

Since you said you love animals - My wife and I have a bunny and are members of the House Rabbit Society. He's a flemish giant so he has a pretty big carrier. When we go to meetings, we take that, a floor pen (fence), his litter box, a bag of hay, toys, water bowl and it fits very easily in the back of my xB. It's very nice to have a big flat area like that instead of using the trunk and seats.

I have also loaded it up with computer cases, servers, printers, and monitors for taking to the electronics recycling. It held a remarkable amount of stuff. And it was great on my backpacking trip to the Smoky Mountains with two other guys (my icon is from that). We had luggage and backpacks from 3 people when I picked them up from the Knoxville airport. The auto-stick was really fun on the road to our trailhead

This weekend we went to the garden store for Fall stuff and loaded up with two straw bales (just fit under the ceiling), a half whiskey barrel, a 50 lb bag of sunflower seeds, and a 50 lb bag of thistle. Then we took a second trip and filled up with mums.

I have noticed that some things slide around pretty easily on the soft rear floormat and seatbacks unless I fit things in to not slide. A way to avoid that would be to get the all-weather rear floormat thing which is more rubbery and would grip slick things better.

I have researched and am aware of the changes from the older models to the brand new one, my only thing is overall cost. I just got out of a $400 a month payment and to be honest am looking forward to a smaller payment than I was juggling.

I am not a fancy girl to begin with, I dress the part sometimes but I am more of a laid back person so as long as it drives nice, is reliable, gets me from point a to point b, and can handle my normal routine then im great

UPDATE: Have an appointment at a dealership 2hrs away to look at a 2012 with 5k miles on it. Only $17,800. I had a lengthy conversation with the dealer and I liked his upfront nature, crossing my fingers it will all work out in my favor.

You should be able to get that for under 400 a month, depending on how long you want to finance.

Sounds about right to me. Maybe try to get a couple hundred more off Yeah mine is $330/month, 1.74%, 5yr. Hope to pay it off before that though.

$17.8? Must have some extras put onto it like spoiler..wheels..fog lights maybe for it to be that much at used price. I thought they are 17.5 brand new?

Edit they are $17,055 brand new.

So here is the update;
I GOT IT!!!

Financed for 5% and very smooth process.
LOVED everyone at the lot and how they conducted themselves,
all of the people were very down to earth and straight shooters.

So here is the new baby as she sits, I have many plans for her already
I named her "Heidi ******", I name every car I own so she is no exception.

2012 Super White with 100,000 bumper to bumper coverage on everything,
has 5k miles.

Very nice. Looking good! It looks like you got one of the higher end stereos. You might want the floor mats, especially the one for the cargo area, since that floor plate doesn't seem the strongest. Anyway, plenty to learn about for customizing. Read up on this site for sure!

Mine was $17,250 new (40 miles) in May. They tacked on a big "delivery processing and handling fee" as well. Floor mats were $184. And I got a warranty to 7yr/100k miles also.
