I've had my car for just over a year now and the hot/cold/hot/cold seems to have gotten to my XB. I'm hearing what sounds like creeks and squeaks in the front right corner against the wind shield and what also sounds like right in the center of the wind shield.

I've already pulled the front door panels and put some felt spacers in various spots between the plastic door panels and the doors which has significantly reduced the squeaks but these new ones up near the windshield are a lot worse and harder to diagnose. Sometimes it seems like pushing hard on the center console stops the upper right one but other times that does nothing. I know come summer I most likely won't hear anything but man do the squeaks drive me crazy in the winter.

Dealership won't do anything about the squeaks anymore. Even the one I've had the box in twice for is still not fixed (I get a rattle every time I push in the clutch).

Just wondering if anyone has actually tackled making the box nice and quiet and what it all entailed.

My dash noise was coming from the outside actually the back piece rubs against the windshield and made my noise.
A trick that worked for with my dash noise was to spray white lithium grease on the edge where the windshield meets the black piece (I don’t know the right term for this piece it’s the big piece of black plastic where the windshield wipers are, between the hood and windshield).

There has been other threads that talk about the same problem. Rollaball has it right as that is where most people have found the noise coming from.

It's good to see that someone else has the same issue. My husband and I found out where exactly the noise was coming from yesterday.. This will be the third time I am bringing the car to Toyota for the issue. My car is actually making a high pitched squealing, which I'm sure it has to do with the black piece rubbing up against the windshield.

I might be going thru abritration to return the car, I have had nothing but issues with this thing, since October.

OK so I brought my xB to the dealer today..and they claim they don't hear the noise. Time to talk to some Toyota dealers near or around my town, because the service writer was really no help what-so-ever.

Mine went in today for a noisy dash and well as usual with my dealer they did an awful job. they stuffed foam into the gap between the dash and the windshield, and then some under the dash but never clipped the dash together completely. i wonder how these companies stay in business

I really hope you didn't accept the shoddy workmanship?

Sorry for ressurecting a zombie thread, but I'm taking my 09 rs 6 to the dealer Wed. for a LOUD squeak from the base of the windshield right in front of the steering wheel. It has gotten much worse as the weather has gotten colder the last few weeks. From reading this I'm guessing it is the cowl vs. windshield issue. Since it is an 09 I hope it isn't the A-pillar squeak TSB for 08's where they have to pull the whole fender off to bend something and hit some spot welds with a punch. I would really rather not have my xB dismantled!

I'd say that the cowl might be the problem.Does anybody have the PDF for taking the cowl off.A gasket made of neoprene sheet or rubber electrical tape or silicone grease applied might help with the movement of this piece against the glass making the noise.

Squeaks

Look under the strut bar install on Sparks, you have to remove the cowl and what's under it to get to the strut tower bolts:
TRD Front Strut Tower Brace at Sparks Toyota-Scion, Myrtle Beach, SC
(Look at the top right hand side to download the instructions-> a service Sparks provides free to all)
I just downloaded the PDF.I'm going to try to take off the cowl AFTER the cold weather. If you streach your imagination,it could be that the flex in the towers could add to the problem, but I'm going for the less costly and quicker fix first.
