Has anyone modded their front side vents yet? If so, what did you do?

I'm thinking about using Chrome paint to mode them to look like this.

I have the 4 piece black grillcraft grilles, which have covers for those vents.

Here's a pic off their site since mine didn't come out too well... mine also don't have the little badges.

I'm curious as to how the inserts attach. Do they just snap into place, or is it more complicated than that?

@ Eric - Did the pics or the grill set not come out too good? If it was just the pics how do you like the grill set?

I was thinking of chroming the grills with duplicolor Chrome Paint to contrast nicely with the Nautical Blue.

@ Geezer - The stock inserts have six tabs (3 on either side) that have to be pulled toward the middle of the insert to free it. They install from behind. I don't know about the Eric's grill set.

I may still go with grill craft. A bit pricey at the moment though. I just want something that makes all my vents match.

Most I have seen do not allow air through - they are just for looks.

I am curious about the effect, albeit small, of changing the "aerodynamics" of the box! (and forcing air in near the front tires)

Those grillcraft covers don't vent they just cover. However I was planning on modding them to vent. Also even if it does vent they won't flow air to the wheels without more modding due to the wheel wells. I am actuall working on details for a vent mod to flow air to the brakes.

That's an attractive grille set. Still awaiting delivery, but I am looking for certain dress items, and I think I might go for something like that as well.

I was thinking about doing the same in Teal and painting the lower grill also to match the rest of the car. I want to get a chrome or stainless insert for the upper grill but I'm not sure about how easy it will be to install.

Sorry but those were photoshopped that way hno:. I haven't done anything yet, just wanted to see what other people thought.

I installed TRD's Cold Air Kit in my 2009 Scion.

The kit adds ducts riunning down to the left vent, and provides a replacement for the plate converting it into a vent.

Bascially, with this kit, the fake vent covered with a plate becomes a real vent. Not sure if the brake hop up kit adds brake vent ducts to this location, but it would be very cool if it did...
