Hi, I have my 09 XB for 3 weeks now, loving it but I am still adjusting the way it drives. I have 2 questions on the XB and not sure are they normal?

1) When I turn the wiper on, every time when it was returning back to the normal position at the low speed, it has one "Click" sound in the dash area, is that normal?

2) I mentioned this on another topic, but I still don't get used to the "light or lose" steering wheel, I just feel like the steering wheel is so lose when I turn it especially within 10 miles per hours. This is my first Toyota and I know Toyota's cars are kind a like that but mine XB feels especially lose. I also have the TRD Springs installed already too. I am waiting on the New TRD Rear Sway bar to be release and put that on, hopefully it would make the steering turn a bit tighter???

Thanks!!!

I've never had that happen. It was raining HARD down here this morning and no clicking.
You need to see if it is hitting something of if the motor arms are doing so. If you can't, make the dealer look at it. It should be under warranty coverage.

Steering wheel feel is subjective.
The wheel has a MUCH more connected feeling that the Cirrus or Crown Vic that the xB replaced as my "kid mover" car. It is not as "sharply" so as my Miata.
As for if yours is too "loose" or "light" . . . can't say for sure, as I can't drive it and compare.
Sorry.

What!!?? You actually drive your xB in the rain!!??

Just kidding...I haven't noticed any clicking on mine, but it may be one of those things I just haven't picked up on.

Does anybody know if the xB has electric power steering? That might explain the feel. I know Honda has gone to electric power steering on certain four cylinder vehicles to reduce the load on the engine. Dunno about Toyota.

The xB does have electric assist power steering. I think it's variable rate also, but I'm not positive. This means the slower the speed the more assist, hence the "looser" feel in the wheel. As speed increases, like on the interstate, the feel gets more taut, and there's less assist.

xB's are like people. Do you want to describe "normal"?

Oh, I am not only have driven the XB in the rain, but snow as well which is kind a sux to have a new car in winter. :(

I kind a figured the "Clicked" sound might be the way it is, you have to pay attention in order to notice it, the first 2 weeks I did not hear that may be I have radio on, then few days ago I heard it while I was driving it at night.

As for the steering wheel, I probably just need sometime to get used to it, but thought to hear you guys opinions. And one last thing, of course I think the XB is not normal, otherwise, I won't buy it. :D

Thanks guys!!!

The steering on my 08 ( I've had for 2 weeks) seems heavy, certainly not light or loose...this is my first front wheel drive vehicle, so I attribute the heaviness to that??

No clicking or slow return in my wipers...

Unfortunatey she drives in the rain or snow...it's her or the bike....the bike as much as possible ( rain, cold....but not snow or ice)

That clicking sound might be the relay clicking open and closed as it activates.
You know . . .
I think he is right.
On the way to Atlanta for work/christmas w/ MY parents last week, it drizzled very lightly and I ran the wipers and HEARD the noises mentioned.
It is probably the servos/relay action.
