So, which ones are you using? I will be using Pennzoil Platinum due to performance and price balance it produces.

I used castrol syntex, 26,500 mile already
Did your car run smoother after you switched to synthetic?

Huge Ansoil fan. I just came over from the LX forums (sold my Hemi Magnum and got a 2012 Xb) where this has been discussed to no end.

Was always a Mobil 1 guy but they have relaxed their standards somewhat (no longer pure synthetic) and Amsoil is now the standard.

I'll switch to Amsoil after the 2nd oil change (I'm going to do the 1st at 1,000 mi to get the bulk of the break-in particles out of there) around 8,000 mi

This thread poses a few questions for me. Because I too was planning on changing the oil at the first 1000 miles. After that I was planning on going straight synthetic with a napa gold filter and keeping my intervals at 5000. Granted I travel on the road for work so the vehicle won't get many miles but I am curious to what toyota considered good break in mileage before switching to synthetic?

In past experiences with my harley, running amsoil has caused my engine oil to run at least 10 degrees cooler but the top and has gotten noisier. In that scenario I made my own land and killed 2 birds with 1 stone.

Being that this is a great designs toyota engine, I feel I can get away with pure synthetic.

Actually yes I did. For one thing the MDS (the computer / lifter activated 4 to 8 cyl thingie) worked a lot better and the engine did seem just a tad smoother overall. All subjective of course, no track or dyno testing.

The Walmarts in KC are not getting stock of Mobil 1 anymore. Not sure what the deal is. The guy at the store said Mobile 1 was having some issues and they arent sure what is going to happen. I would hate to have to pay $10 more everywhere else.

I always used mobil 1 (synthetic oil ) in all of my cars, one of them, my Saturn sc1, always well maintained,

I discover a clicking rattling noise on the engine, I google it, since I always take care of the car, (other that the engine given up) I read on more than one website the same issue with mobil 1.......
I change it to castrol and the noise stop, no more noise,

I always thought mobil 1 was the best oil,

so, now I use castrol on all my cars, ( synthetic oil )

keep in mind I'm in austin Texas, we have 100 degrees temperatures pretty much all the time
