I'm currently in the process of putting together a DIY for adding more light for backing up. I have so far made a list of the tools needed, the parts needed is a WIP.Supplies are being thought of and proceedures will be formulated as the cold weather continues here on the East coast. First try in fabricating the brackets will start this week, and any problems I have will be addressed. This might take a while but I want to get it right. I will keep everyone posted on the progress. The big problem currently is which way to go on the finish, should I prep.,primer, top coat, clear coat,or should I find some place that can chem.treat the aluminum brkts. at a reasonable price.

Sounds like a great project. Provide pictures as you get further into it.

Back up lights

Because of the cold weather,I have had to put this project on hold. An update on what I've done so far. I have fabricated the alum brkts. and drilled the access holes for the wires. After thinking about a finish, I have found a primer that claims to be self etching. That said, I will apply it to the brkts. and paint them with Toyota touch up color 3E5 when the temp. goes up. The one thing that I have to look at is clearance brtween the body of the car and the rear bumper cover so that the wires for the LED's can be hooked up to the OEM b/u light. Before I remove the rear light assem. to check on clearence, is there anyone who has worked on these lights that can tell me if there enough room for the wires? They will be a light guage (24 AWG) and won't need a lot of room. Thanks for the inguiry Brewski.
