Yes, you can get bass in back. Since the xb has 5.5" speakers in the back you can get 6.5" and put them in and get a little more bass. New speakers will not be as efficient so you will have to turn the volume knob up more to get the same sound. For really low bass though you will need a sub woofer.

All I want is a little more sound from the back speakers. I have the faders set on "5" and still can't hear them very well. Hubby wants to build an enclosure for an amp and do all kinds of things like he has in his truck...too much for me.

If you have removed the rear door panels to replace or upgrade the speakers, can you show me? Is there a DIY on doing this somewhere? Will a 6.5 fit in the 5.5 spot without serious cutting?

Thanks.

The holes for the front and rear speakers are the same so 6.5 will work in both places. An aftermarket speaker will not be as efficient as the speakers that come with the car so you probably won't get more sound out of replacement speakers unless you use an amplifier.

Here's a DIY on it > http://newscionxb.com/do_it_yourself/speaker_replacement-t1949.0.html

I got the 6.5" speakers in the rear doors. Didn't have to use the fabricated adapters. We had a set of Pioneer 4 ohm that fit right in the slots. Hubby decided that the amp we have has too much wattage for those speakers, so we'll get a smaller one. Right now, I at least have more sound from the rear. One of the club members mentioned that most people don't care about the rear speakers and work to make all the noise in the front with the big subwoofers in the back. I like the "surround" sound and stereo separation. I would like a little more bass and volume, but that is another addition later.

I'm the same way! I replaced the four door speakers with 6-1/2" coax and set the front/rear fader to -1 (one step towards the rear.) That gives me more of a sense of surround in front. Right now I'm trying to decide on a good upgrade head unit and whether I should change the OE tweeters.

Yeah I replaced my rears with componets that are 6.5" mids and 1" tweeters. That along with fading towards the back give me a killer surround sound effect that I love. Of course thats not the end of my sound project there is definatly more to come next season.
