Blasphemy?

I love my '09 xB - so much in fact that I have considered keeping it instead of getting a taller vehicle that will take me more places.

So I have been having thoughts of putting taller tires, even all terrain/offroad tires on a set of stock steelies in order to give me a bit more ground clearance and cushiness so that I can navigate some of the rougher graded roads around here that are off limits with low profile tires and pretty wheels.

Can you say xB SUV?

So, rather than debate the merits of my idea, has anyone seen this done before, looked into it themselves or have any idea what the best wheel/tire setup would be to accomplish my goal, should I decide to move forward?

I have this vision floating through my head of a slightly lifted xB with some fat BFG A/Ts, a push bar with offroad lights and beefy roof rack. :clown:

Ok, someone has thought of it, but of course I am not talking of going quite to this extreme. Still, cool!

Here's a first gen with the general concept I was thinking.

What you're thinking about doing has been talked about a lot. One guy took the idea far enough that it involved a Toyota Rav4 suspension, but I think he dropped the project before actually installing it. Another option would be to get an air suspension and keep the bags inflated for the look you want, then you could lower it for more driving comfort whenever you want.
The rear isn't too bad, as long as you don't over stretch the pivoting joints on the front part of the beam frame. On the fronts, it changes the 3-point alignment geometry completely.
I wonder what the info on the brown/tan one above is. It should be on-line somewhere. Oh, and it was a bunch of Marines who did that for a build-off (that the Navy team won).
Here another picture of it:

I like the concept, but I like mine low. :)

I may do that one day, when I have the money to own 2 cars.
Thanks guys.

I am not looking to go that extreme. Looks like the smallest tires size that BFG offers for the AT for example, is 215/70-16. The diameter of those tires is right at 3 inches greater than stock size.

Any idea if they'd fit and work with the stock suspension?
Tweaked one of their pics. :)

Looks awesome....love it! The B is soooo versatile. Scion needs to make it available as a 4WD!

There's a chart in the tires and wheels section. You wan to stick to the green if you can. I put 225 50 16s on mine.
Man, that is really incredible -- like a mini monster. Land Rover, eat your heart out :)!
