budget big brakes?

Anybody had any luck with upgrading the brakes on our xB2, on a budget? I know the 240sx guys can interchange the 300z or the 350z brakes for a big improvement but little investment.

Anybody done something like this?

Not anyone that I've heard of. Probably because our brakes are already very good as is!...
HEy Checkpoint702, I posted something similar to this thread longtime ago, and NOBODY here came with something, only asking why I want to do that? "don't mess with brakes" and just BLA BLA BLA, I did it with my old Mazda Protege 5, I installed mazda 6 front brakes, bigger rotors, bigger calipers and they fit perfect, no modifications. I know there has to be something outside in the Toyota family that is bigger and fit in our cars, like camry V6, tundra, tacoma, I don't know.

What I don't like is that kind of answer people gave you "Our brakes are good" or "why you wan't to do that?"

you will get those kind of answers if no one has tried this mod. sometimes it would be better if the person asking goes for it themselves. you already mentioned other models that work with the Xb2. keep in mind this will be a trial and error thing. if you ever have the time to try it let us know your progress. at the end you will get all the credit for going out of your way to make it happen and not get unwanted answers. good luck
The guy asked if anyone tried bigger brakes and I replied...Geez

When I got my XB I felt it had a few shortcomings that needed to be addressed. I fixed the handling, power, sound system...but brakes were never considered to be one of those issues...(My 66 Mustang definitely benefitted from dual disc SSBC brakes over all drum...)

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to have better brakes though and I say go for it. Maybe some drilled slotted rotors and better pads would be an easier route...
i am currently on slotted/drilled rotors all around and i can stop fine i have had close encounters and she stopped on a dime and i have bigger and heavier wheels than stock and a 75lb rear sub box setup.
A possible set to try is the Camry, Avalon, ES350 brakes, they have the same bolt pattern, of course, and will move you up to a 11.6" diameter rotoe in the front compared to our 10.8" one. Since these are all front wheel drive cars the calipers might fit with little to no modification but don't quote me on that as I haven't tried it or even looked at dimensions. Looking at the parts digrams for both the xB and Camry the actual caliper mount looks very similar.

The Lexus IS350 has an even larger brake rotor, 13.1", but with the car being rear wheel drive it may or may not fit. It looks promissing as there is also an 11.6" option for the IS, same size as the Camry.

Best bet would be to go to a junkyard and pull a set from a similar year Camry and test fit it. If it works then spend the money for new calipers, rotors, and pads.
I for one think brakes can always be better. And I done care for our factory ones. There so much to consider when trying to upgrade. And brakes are definitely a thing that isnt just as simple as a trial and error. Most likely comes out as error. Measure twice cut once.

And maybe its just me. But isnt there a trd big brake kit?...

Yes there is but op said budget lol. Trd bbk is like $1,300.
Yeh thats outta my budget of zero fo sho.

But, the trd kit could also give dimension specs n numbers n such for those with the time to research it.
I'm sure some will fit, just by how Toyota works. But, I don't know which lines/models used the same basic design.
With 16" and/or light rims, the stock ones are plenty. They are designed for larger rims and 16" is the smallest that clears the calipers. They are overkill for the weight of the xB2. Most vehicles its size use MUCH smaller brakes. That said, 20" or the like, rims or a racing application would work best with even larger brakes.

In the future, assuming mine survives, I would be interested in bigger brakes, but I don't need them yet.
If you're looking for brakes on a budget start with better pads, fluids and ss lines. Anything other than those $$ adds up quick.

As far as the TRD BBK (Stoptech) price point for the Xb its not that bad. But you also have to remember that you need new wheels to clear them as well.
