Update on Hood "bug" Deflector - Canadian
I returned the first bug deflector I ordered off of eBay. It only covered the center section of the hood. It was not what I had expected or wanted.
So I bought the Scion Canadian Hood Deflector PN PU500-52011 from:
James Miller, Parts Advisor
ToyotaTown
1065 Wharncliffe Rd. S.
London, ON N6L 1J9
Telephone: 519-680-0030
Cost $220.75 US including the tax & shipping. It was more than I wanted to spend, but there was no option if I wanted a deflector that I liked and that provided maximum coverage for the hood area.
James was great to work with & provided great customer service. He did what he said he'd do and followed up when he said he'd follow up. I highly recommend doing business with him.
The install instructions were easy to follow and the whole thing only took about 35 minutes - I was reading the instruction in detail as I went - if I'd done one before it could have been done in about 10 minutes. (Time does not include washing & waxing prior to install.)
It is possible to do this by yourself, but its a BIG help to have a second set of hands to help hold things as you progress, so you don't damage anything.
The parts kit was short 2 of the small plastic retainer clips, but I by some miracle had exact matches in my parts bin. (I must have ordered some extras in the past for something on one of my other Toyotas).
There are 6 finish protectors (see install instructions attached) really vinyl plastic film patches to cover the paint on the lip of the hood where the metal/plastic clips are mounted. The instructions are pretty fool-proof. There are 6 clips 4 metal ones in the center sections and 2 small plastic & metal ones out just above the headlights. Across the hood are spaced 6 rubber stand-off bumpers. Only tool needed was a medium size phillips head screwdriver.
I am extremely happy with the way it turned out. Why Toyota/Scion doesn't sell this accessory here in the US is hard to understand. I wish they made one for my xD!
