Cars You Wish You Still Owned

Came across some old 35 mm slides of this 1947 MG-TC I owned in the early 70's. It was Stage III modified and raced by a doctor from Huntington Beach, CA in the 1950's -1960's. It was a little tired by time I got it, but was still a blast to drive. All of the wooden structural members (yes, wood!) had been replaced with steel tubing, the suicide doors had been reversed, it had domed pistons, a hot rod cam, Weber carbs, headers, enormous finned brake drums and the 19" wheels had been replaced with 16" wheels and Dunlop Blue Dot racing tires. I had visions of restoring it and had made some progress, but sold it in a panic when I lost my job. Wish I had it back and often wonder what happened to it.

96 Dodge Avenger (I know...I know...but it was the first car I bought brand new, the xB, was the second)
ONLY one I don't presently own!

87 Volkswagen Vanagon, Wolfsburg Edition.

I LOVED that van!
I should have gotten it re-engined when the headgasket blew!

A Subaru 4-banger or Porsche 911 6-banger would have both fit.
Alas, it is long gone . . .

Of course, if it was still around, the xB2 would NOT be . . .
Oh, well.

i miss this one. My dad and I built it when I was in middle school, and he sold it to me when I was 19. I only had it for a year and a half before selling it due to the 8MPG. I shoulda bought a beater 4banger to drive daily and kept it. I found it at a car show in Pigeon Forge,TN and I was glad too see that its in good hands. Its green now....not my style but glad to see its not ragged or in a scrap yard.

I miss this one more than any and it did get crushed. Sold it to a friend when I moved to Cali in the hopes of buying it back when I came back to TN. Long story short, police impounded it saying it was a "project vehicle-non-running" (it ran, battery was dead and it had a flat) which wasnt allowed in my homies subdivision. he struggled to get funds to get it outa jail and ran outa time. He never called me because he was embarased at its current state. GEEZZZ!!!! anyway I later tracked it down and found out it was sold at auction and the new owner stripped it(wheels, engine, swingaxle, front end, int.,etc.) and they sent it to the crusher. WHY!?!?! it was a solid body and pan AND RARE AS HELL!!! sorry I get emotional on that one.

Id like to have all my old buckets back, but those are the ones I miss the most.

My first truck. a 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody. Loved that tuck. Wish I had it. Wanna buy another one.

My 1974 Camaro. I was the second owner. I new the orginal owner personally. Worked on that car as a young person. I was in the start of restoring it. Had to get rid of it because I didn't have the money to work on it, drive it, or anywhere to park it. Now that I have a apt with a garage I miss that car everyday. If I had it I probably wouldn't mod the xB. I would have put on wheels and that would have been it. I would be spending all my money restoring it.
i wish i still had my first car...

a 1982 Cadillac Eldorado...i bought it for $700 and had to eventually junk it. :(

My 1st car was an 89 Nissan Sentra 4dr. 5sp.
It wasn't fast by any means but it was extra fun to drive. :D
Paid 700$ for it with 200,000mi on it..
Was driving on a wet road and went around a curve and slid off the road but just barely..This in turn cracked my oil pan which I was unaware of until my car had leaked all the oil out of it and seized the engine :(
ok i've only had 2 other cars a saab 900s talladega edition and the car i wish i still had is my 94 tercel! ok its a crap car but the history this car had ...... 3 of my friends owned it before me and we all tried to kill it we all have these crazy stories of abuse we made this car endure and the car actually had notches carved in the dash!!! added a couple myself the car had 220000kms or 140000+mi would still be driving the car if not for some stupid fu*k who assassinated my car went in to work one day came back to my car only to see that some moron back into it at 20 mph mangled the front end knocked the mirror off and the death blow sandwiched the car between his car and the sidewalk the rear axel looked like a horse shoe. i tried to get it home but was outta luck its heart was still going strong but the rest was finished.
ahh the times we had.....

Really?!?! You had a 1931 Model A Ford, and PARTED WITH IT?!?!

What I miss the most..
1973 VW Beetle. Had it for 13 years. I cried as it left my house with it's new owner driving it away.
It's replacement was a 2001 New beetle TDI (diesel). I miss that one, too, but not nearly as much as the '73.

I kinda miss this one, too. 1967 Beetle I bought in 1979, cut apart and modified it as you see in the picture. That's ME driving it :)

Now THAT is some serious body work. Nicely done. Details?
I love the Panel Truck look. One of my favorite cars was a 1969 VW Bug. I happened to go to a dealership that was getting a new owner on the day I happened to be looking for a car. I actually paid $975.00 for it out the door. Then I added wide wheels and tires, headers and side scoops behind the side windows that fed directly into a Judson Supercharger, Hurst shifter. Damn car ran like a raped ape. I have the Trophies and Kill Stickers to prove it. I actually had a State Trooper pull me over early one morning as when I went by where he was parked he didn't believe it was a Bug. I saw his lights and was waiting on the side of the road for him when he pulled up. He told me that if I had a Volkswagen engine in it he would let me go. I showed him and he was a man of his word and let me go. That's when I started going to the Drag Strip. Fun times.

OOOOHHHH... I drove a 73 VW Beetle my last year in college (74/75), delivering pizzas....had a decal of a little guy on the side holding a pizza, front passenger seat removed for the pizza oven...cruised all over Norman, OK having a blast in it. Great car.

Wish I still owned my 1976 Dodge Charger - silver, burgandy pimp-velour interior....Dodge version of the historic "Chrysler Cordoba"... great boulevard cruiser....sank it in the 84 Memorial Day flood.
And of course the Vette.

yep, I was young, broke and had nowhere to keep it. I did drive it once...uh, that was not too easy to say the least. I sold it for 4800.

Details? Kinda foggy, as it was 30 years ago..

I bought the kit, it was fiberglass. What I remember most is taking a hacksaw..yes, I have a picture of that as well, me standing there with hacksaw in hand getting ready to cut off part of my Beetle. I'm pretty sure it involved cutting across the roof at about the B pillar, breaking the welds along the top of the window where the roof was attached and removing that section along with the windows. The kit itself was a pretty good fit. I recall pop-riveting it where it met the body for the body work as you see it in the picture.

12 hours.. what a joke...
