I had the same problem with a sweetgum tree several years and several cars ago, before I built my garage. At the time our kids were very small and, in the summertime when it was hot and sunny and the sap was not rock hard, rubbing gently for several minutes with baby wipes did a good job. Of course that necessitated a new coat of wax.

Last year,I used "NU Finish" on my B and so far I've had no problem with the finish. It's still working. The nice thing is that it be applied in the sun and it isn't hard to buff out. When the weather gets warmer, I'll apply another coat. The only thing to be careful of is getting it on any rough surface, like black trim or vinyl areas. It wont come off.
