Was under the hood today and noticed the dreaded pink coolant stripe on the underside of the hood. Luckily I'm off work today. I called the dealer, took it right over and already have it back with a new waterpump.

Coincidentally, I had to take my wife's mini in for a waterpump repair today too.

If anyone is interested...according to the invoice they replaced:

Part # 1610-0H050 Pump assy, water
Part # 00272-SLLC2 Super Long Life C (clamp?)
Part # 00295-00103 FIPG OIL PAN (gasket?)

Not itemized, but I assume there was some antifreeze added too :D

While there I asked them to check the VIN against the coil pack TSB. Mine isn't included in that one.

The 00272-SLLC2 is the coolant, 00295-00103 is a liquid gasket from a tube that is also used on the oil pan to seal it, but they didn't touch the oil pan. They used the sealant on the water pump where it meets the engine.

I've been told Prestone Cooling System Antifreeze Treatment is effective at protecting pump seals, so I plan to start using that as a precaution. Walmart sells it for about $6 and that seems a lot cheaper than possibly having to buy a new pump :)!

I trust the SLLC over Prestone but that's also because I worked for Toyota.
Doesn't replace, just augments (an additive), and thinking purely in terms of a deficiency in the original pump design. The failures are indicative of a problem, hence the new pump! Mine may not fail anyway, but I don't mind paying a minimal few dollars to help minimize the likelihood :)!
