I didn't realize how much of a dust magnet my car would be. Or maybe it is just the color makes it show more. I spend 2-3 hours every Friday night detailing my car. I go outside this morning to do something and walk by the car and it is covered in dust, like I didn't even wash it. I have got to say that is very frustrating..... :wallbash:

Does anyone else experience this or am I just in some weird science experiment???

You think you've got it bad with the Blackberry Crush? Try Black Sand Pearl; it's even worse. I can't tell you how many times I've washed my car in the ~2 months I've owned it. In fact, I just moved my car about ten feet because it was parked under a tree on my street overnight, and now it's covered with dust, pollen, little twigs and other "tree detritus".

Ideally I would like to keep my xB looking showroom-clean, but I am quickly adusting to the reality which is, if it's going to be parked outside, it's going to look like crap most of the time, except for the few hours right after I've washed and/or waxed it.

I have also noticed that it seems to be worse when the temperatures are mild and condensation and dew accumulate on the car overnight and early morning. Then dust and other pollutants get captured in the condensation and, as the moisture dries in the morning hours, those dust particles and other pollutants adhere to the car's surface. Very annoying.

I'm 40 years old and have owned several cars, but for the first time I am learning what "clay barring" is all about. A testament to how much I love this car...

I went with Classic Silver primarily for its dust and dirt hiding capability. Not as dramatic as the darker colors, but I'm at the stage of my life where I don't have lifespan to waste (I only buy full-grown trees). The last time I owned a black car was 1993 and I swore I would never, ever own another one. It looked gorgeous when it was clean, but twenty minutes later....

Well I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way. I swear I go outside and the only car that looks like it has any dust or dirt on it is mine. Yeah I am pretty psycho about keeping the xB clean. I always say every Saturday morning after looking at the car, I say "OK thats it I am not spending that much time cleaning the car anymore." But what do you think happens the next Friday. There I am at the car wash again doing my routine. It takes me a few minutes but I come to the same reality that being parked outside my car is not going to look showroom clean very long. It just takes me a few minutes to come to that realization.

I feel your pain. I found one of those coin-op self-serve car washes near my work and I'm there at least once a week on my lunch break. I've got it down to a science too, so that it doesn't take me very long.

One thing I discovered is, be careful with the hose! The place I go, the hose comes down from the ceiling on a thing that swivels to allow you to work around the car. I wasn't being especially careful with the hose one day and it dragged across one of the body panels and left several long scratches on the passenger side C-pillar.

Thank goodness for Meguiar's Scratch-X... now most of them are gone, there is just one tiny one left, but it went down to the primer. :(

Well I got lucky. I met the owner of the self serve car wash I go to. And since I am there on Friday nights and it isn't to busy he told me I could bucket wash. But I am careful of the hose on the sprayer. That is one of the reasons it takes me so long. I would layout my routine here for you but I don't want people in a padded wagon to come and pick me up.......

I know this is gonna make some of you grit your teeth but we have ours in a garage. It never gets dirty or dusty. I use the no water wash from Smart Wax if I feel the need. Maybe some day I will take it out of the garage and actually drive it....... ;)

Every Thurs - the one Thurs I didn't wash it, our club took pics that Sat. Boy, did I feel awkward! I felt like I'd been caught with my skirt stuck in my underwear... HTM actually shows a lot of dirt - not so much on the sides but on the back end and front little scoop area. It's just dark enough that it's a bit of an issue.

my xB is pretty new (3 months) and I washed the car and then waxed with Maguires NXT. Ever since waxing, dust does not stay, comes right off. I used a blower to clean dust out of my garage and it got all over the car and as soon as I drove it, it just blew off and was clean. It also rained and when dried there were no spots and it looks like i just waxed it.

I definitely recommend using a good synthetic wax like NXT. has kept my car real clean. I think carnuba still has an actual wax quality that dust can stick to so use the synthetic polymer stuff or whatever it is.

I am really picky about mine as well. I swear mine just dirty just sitting there looking good. LOL..

I have not been as bad as I normally am, but I would dust mine off everyday before I left for work. Even though I left when it was dark outside. Lately I have just been driving it. Mainly cause it has been raining here lately. Put it this way. Every weekend I would pull off all the wheels and clean the inside of them and clean all the undercarriage. My neighbors just lok at me like I am crazy.

I swear the Stingray metallic does not show the dust at all! I could have washed it last weekend but wanted to do a little test and see how bad it would get... but it still looks great! You have to look at the right angle or if you see where someone touched it and the dust came off you can tell it's dusty but otherwise the color hides the dust. Doesn't hide the bird poo though

My box is NBM and my first dark car. It shows everything and I swear dust comes from out of state just to land on my car. Week after next I'm off work and she'll get detailed for her calendar picture. Can't wait to put some decent wax on her so she'll be easier to care for.

Awaiting arrival of my Blackberry Crush xB. Not looking forward to the dust factor of a dark colored car. My current vehicle, a MINI, is "Electric Blue," which seems to be one of the best MINI colors for hiding dust. Problem is, I am lazy when it comes to detailing. I'll wash, but I hate waxing, etc. So my MINI always looks like hell. So yeah, I'm probably going to be that guy who people pray won't show up for group photo day. :naughty:

Try Eagle 1 Wax As You Dry. Spray it on your car after you've rinsed it and just dry it like you normally would. I've been using it since it first came out and rarely give my rides a conventional waxing any more. Great results. The only caveat, I have a Classic Silver xB...dunno how WAYD works on darker colors. Haven't owned a dark colored car since 1993 and based on past history won't buy another one until 2028
