I own a 2009 Scion XB. After the last maintenance service, the car lost 3qts of oil within 3,000 miles. There are no leaks and no exhaust smoke. I researched online and found the factory produced defective pistons and piston rings in the 2008 & 2009 models. The failure occurs at about 60,000 miles. I have 58,000 miles and the dealer refuses to help because I am 8 months out of warranty. I contacted Toyota HQ in CA and they also will do NOTHING.
In the past I owned a 1972 Chevy which blew a head gasket and Chevy paid for half the repair cost. In 2008 the engine in my LandRover Freelander "blew" and LandRover agreed to pay half the repair costs.
I thought Toyota was a reputable company, but apparently not. They do not provide decent customer service at all! This is the last Toyota I will ever own and I discourage everyone else considering buying one.
