Have you guys heard of this? I read this article yesterday. Modern efficient engines are quiet by nature. Drivers of sports cars like engine noise, so many car companies are playing recorded engine noise through the stereo speakers linked to the engine.

I was just watching a car show on tv the other day where a guy drove a new mustang and was loving the growl of the engine. Now I know the sound he hear wasn't really the engine!

I don't know about the sound coming through the stereo, but I know the R56 Mini Cooper S has a device that makes noise and puts it through the firewall. Supposed to make it sound more sporty.

Yeah the article said that some manufacturers, like BMW, add special noise-making pipes near the passenger compartment. While that is a bit contrived, at least it is really noise from the engine and not a recording.

Yup Ford does it with the Mustang and awesome Focus ST. The xB does it with an intake. 😉 lol.
