Had to go fill up the mower gas can the other day, and did put down a few paper towels before setting the filled can in the back floor board behind the driver seat. Got home (a mile) and the gas had sloshed or leaked out! It couldn't have been alot, but hey it doesn't take much when it comes to gasoline! So, I tossed the paper towels, and the carpet remnant I had put down over my xB mat, but I can smell the gas on the xB mat.
Do you think I'll get it out? I good shampoo? Lots of spray? Air it out? I think I got the gas smell out of the car so that's cool, just this floor mat.

thanks!!

lol....I looked it up, so I won't ruin it if anyone really knows.

For what I can figure, the mats were approx 150 bucks, divided by 4 equals about 37 bucks each. I ain't burnin' it!

Well, I aired it our for a week. I've also gave it a bath in Dawn dishsoap and sprayed the heck out of it w/ the Citrus car freshner spray. It can still be smelled in one spot if you put your nose to it.

I think it's gonna be ok!

Go to a detail shop and ask them to use the "extractor" they might do it for free if it is a small spot or may throw them $10 to do the area near where it spilled to remove any remnants. Good Luck..

OK, this reminds me of the patient who keeps poking himself in the eye, and tells the doctor "It hurts when I do this", and the doctor replies "Then don't do that".

As gasoline is a volatile, it will eventaully all evaporate. However, it will stink pretty bad in the meantime. Soap and elbow grease.. and go buy yourself a new gas container for next time.

I have to say, it's awful when you spill something in the back of your car. A few years ago I was coming home from a "Chain Home Improvement Store" with a gallon of paint on the floor behind me. Went around a corner, heard a clunk, thought nothing of it. I get home, go to take out the paint, and see it oozing out of the bag all over the footwell. Talk about going into a panic! I got out my shop vac and the garden hose and spent the next 45 minutes or so soaking my carpet and sucking out the water. I got it all out, but one of the trim pieces on the seat rail had to be replaced, I just couldn't get all the paint off it.

That being said, I wonder if this might work for you: lots of soapy water and a wet/dry shop vac.

As long as it doesn't stink the air up in the ride, and I assume nobody will be sniffing the floor mat, it should be ok. I'll just get a new carpet remnant to put back over it since the one I had in there, I tossed.

hey boblamb, thanks for the advice, but dang, my eye hurts!~
