Hey.

I want to paint my dash! I need some help on how to (safely) take off the rings around the air vents and the plastic near/under the shifter. (where all the red lines point)

Tips/Tricks??

Thanks!

sweet I think I cant tell more pix!! :fish:
it's just a white base, black bottom coat, marblizer, candy and clear. The white is just the base and clear
Looks good scvscions!!! It's not an overuse of marbelizer like I've seen in the past from other people (mostly just a customer of mine...).

I've thought about doing some of my interior plastics with marbelizer, but instead of using plastic wrap, use a paper towel on the bottom of a plastic film canister. So I'll get the "engine turned" look like old cars.

Hey TartanJack, there's an idea for your retro interior!!!
Wow, that blue looks *badass*.

I was just picturing painting my shift console when I was installing a new shift boot.

What sorta paint did you use, and did you need to prep the plastic with something first?
I just received my rvinyl kit its carbon fibre.

The guy that I saw doing it was the famous Gary Jensen. He had a shop here for a while and I had a flat black S-10 that I wanted him to do some pinstripe licks on. Well, he moved to Vegas (if I recall correctly) and he's been traveling a bunch and doing seminars. If you look at some dashes on older cars, they have engine turning. It's popular in the hot rod crowd.

Click this link for a picture. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/2522658281/sizes/l/ That whole fender is engine turned. Eastwood Company also offers a kit for engine turning. http://www.eastwood.com/ew-engine-turning-kit-1in-diameter.html
what type of paint was used for the blue dash pieces? I also hate the color of those dash pieces and want to just paint them black with some orange accents.

One thing to remember, all that dash reflects on the windscreen. Before I added the blue on my Scot flag on the part around the gauge pod, the reflection of the silver was VERY annoying. Once I added the blue, it became better. I can still see it, but it isn't all that noticeable.
Any bright or light hues may be seen in windshield reflection, as your sitting driving.

clever idea!
I guess I should update . . .
Present dash paint:

I plan to add a T3q/TEq (vintage Toyota) logo and TRAVELLER script in a either a red or black bar with some sort of edging.
As I don't have the badging I want in the condition I want it, it remains silver.
The black top edge is a HUGE improvement over what it was in either blue or the silver/black Jolly Roger look. Only see a slight line from the chrome edging, and only in certain lighting conditions.
I'd post a shot of the one between, but I seem never to have taken a shot of it . . .

Actually, I am working late-shift tonight, so I am watching Initial D (goes off Netflix streaming 11/15) and scheming how to finish off the steering wheel emblem and dash. My original plan for the wheel emblem was to simply put one of the emblems originally intended for my oil-cap (I got 4 emblems from the seller, besides the one on the engine). It is neither sticking the way hoped OR look right (circle in oval slot). Instead, I am going to adapt some small oval-version vinyl decals I got a while back. I'll attach that instead (red on aluminum)

I am also arranging and rearranging how to do the dash . . .

What the silver-on-top does to the windscreen:

THAT can be rather annoying. I extended the top of the Jolly Roger to get the bar out of my direct forward vision.
