Summer is coming soon and I definitely want to install an intake system. But still concern about the cleaning issue.

1) Has anyone cleaned their TRD CAI yet? If so, do you have to take out your tire or bumper in order to get to the filter?

2) Besides TRD CAI, anyone knows are there any short ram intake that is CARB approved, couple months ago I email to K & N and still not?

Please let me know, thanks!!!

When I installed mine a couple days ago, I just turned the wheels all the way to the left, removed the 3 screws/bolts and "pop" clips for the liner. It was tight, but enough room to get it in and out.
You could remove, clean, and reinstall the filter the same way, as you don't need to "yank' anything out all the way.

I wonder if you run it up rhino ramps, if you could just pull the liner's under part loose and get the filter out w/o too much effort. I'll try in 40,000-50,000 miles . . .
(The filter recommended clean period is "at least every 50,000 miles.")

Thanks for the info. I just got my TRD CAI installed when I took my box for 5000 miles service. I LOVE it. I will worry about exactly how I would clean it at least 30000 - 40000 miles. If you do it before me, please let me know how it would turn out.

Thanks!

Were you wanting to know how to clean the filter or how to get to the filter to clean it? We have a cleaning kit on our site for about $18 and the installs on our site could help you as well to see how to get to that filter. I like Tartan's idea though, not sure if its doable though but a good idea.
