Hi everyone

I know a lot of you have sponsors, so my question is how do you get a sponsor? but the cache is that I live in Colorado and there aren't a lot of shows to go to, I'm still in school so I can't be having to go to a lot of shows.

Thanks

Well I will say your "catch" might be killing the sponsor option. Most all sponsors will want something in return. The only real way for that to happen is by the sponsored driver to be at shows so people are seeing the product. Driving around doesn't really do anything for advertising.

tardis is right, almost any sponsor is going to want your attendance at shows, its the only way to showcase a product to the right consumer. im looking for sponsor cars right now and thats a requirement. its the only thing that a sponsor would be able to get in return is free advertising.

Thanks for your comments, on average how many shows are you expected to attend?

I attend (and plan to attend/show in) all the major ones within your region. Usually there's about one a month with about two or three shows you really want to be part of. For me its Exposed and the spring/fall Import Alliance shows and whatever else I can fit in around those. If you can get to and show in 6 to 10 shows you're doing well. Most people make it to 3 to 6 though. Its about establishing yourself and your car which ultimately establishes your sponsors.

I have 2 local sponsors and basically I have paid for work from them first. If the quality of the work is good I usually discuss options with them about sponsorship. The initial deals I have involve show appearances and passing out business cards. After 3 shows of doing this one of my sponsors (paint and body shop) professionally painted my taillights and reverse light for free. We are negotiating a deal to re-paint my enitre car.

My other sponsor is our local Toyota/Scion Dealership. After passing out cards from them I have received dealer cost for parts and many small free accessories (key chains, shirts, hats, and door sills).

Sponsorships are a lot harder to get these days with the economy being the way it is. You really have to work to get them. I have had sponsors for my last 3 show cars and even though I have really done a lot to my xB, it has been toughest car for me to get committments on. Even appearing in 6-8 shows per year doesnt always assure them of money well spent.

Good Luck!

ya, i mean im looking at 5-7 shows, and hes completely right about the economy making things difficult. My sponsorship starts with parts that you want getting at cost, and in return free advertising. then after that depending on the success, other things could be offered. in order to get a sponsorship tho you have to have a car thats already modded, but has room for improvement and has curb appeal. you also have to have like professional pics to show the car off.

I have a few sponsors locally and have been working on getting some other sponsors outside of my region but its nearly impossible, especially to get a full sponsorship. Partial sponsorships are awesome, but you dont get things free, just discounted. And most people wont sponsor a stock car or a lightly modded car. You need to bring something to the table to get them to want to put their stuff on your car and have you show off for them.

it sucks, but you basically can't get a sponsorship unless you are basically already done with your mods and your car is bad ***.

Thanks for the help guys, it sounds to me like it would be easier and cheaper too just buy the parts and install them my self.

it would and it wouldnt. you have to think anywhere you go to get parts your paying retail. with a sponsor you are getting great discounts and in exchange having to go to shows which are fun too. just keep looking around.
