I have a mixed opinion of them so far. The install wasn't hard. The longest part was deciding where to mount the ballasts.

I was driving at dusk and turned on my lights. The few cars around me that had lights on clearly had a pool of light in front of their cars. I couldn't tell mine were on by looking at the road. I could see the reflection in the car ahead of me though and their license plate was lit up super bright reflecting my headlights. As it got darker, they lit up the road though. I have 5000K bulbs which are supposed to be bright white, but I think are still fairly bluish. (Maybe just compared to the more yellowish stock halogens though.)

In town where there are streetlights, they didn't seem to light the road much, but all the signs reflected very brightly. In the country, they cast a very wide beam off both sides of the road (in addition to in front of me of course). They really seemed to light up the trees on the right side too. There was a wide stripe of shadow from the cut-off and the light was much dimmer above it. I'm guessing that's from the squirrel finder that reflects a small portion of the beam up to light up signs. Generally out in the sticks, I will have my high beams on anyway though.

One other thing that is probably skewing my opinion is that I always had my fogs on with the stock bulbs. That kept the area directly in front of the xB very bright. Using the HID's I had the fogs off. I imagine the HID's will grow on me.

OK, maybe I'm just hallucinating, but the HID's seemed much brighter this morning when I drove to work.

Put HID's in the Fogs too, it really makes a difference!
Where can I get HID's for my oem fogs? Would it be just the bulbs or do I need the whole set up? (ballasts, etc)

I'll have to wait a while before I can afford to buy a 2nd HID kit. I was surprised to notice how the HID's I put in the headlights light up the road right in front of car. I seem to remember it not being very bright there before, hence running the fogs all of the time.

On another note, where did you mount the ballasts for your HID's?

Zinger, I recently installed my ddm 5k kit...and I was thinking the exact same thing about them not being as bright...

Now, once I got off the interstate and onto some backroads...it really was a night and day difference.

Im in about the same boat as you. If they don't grow on me in the next week, Ill probably put them up for sale for $20 and go back to stock bulbs.

It seems that 5k is a bit more blue than I thought it would be also.

Yeah, I noticed it really dark right in front of the car too. I also ran my fogs all the time.

I mounted the fog ballasts on the Bumper Support behind the Bumper Cover. My Projector ballasts I mounted on the vertical support on the right and left fenders. I'll try to get a picture today if I can of the mounted projector ballast.

I know you guys are aware of this, but in projector heads, the higher the Kelvins, the less light is projected. That's why the 4300K OEM is brighter. Above that it's just different colors. Since the fogs are not projectors, the amount of light will vary because it's just the HID bulbs. I also recommend the 35w for the fogs. I got mine at ddmtuning.com for about $25.

Hi Hellen.

So you replaced your oem fog lamp bulbs with an hid set up? I'm assuming that the hid's plugged right into the oem fog lamp housing? I'm looking into doing this and would like your input.

Thanks.

Hi all just purchased a 2011 XB
I am about to purchase a HID kit for my XB gen 2 from DDM tuning. Would like to know if I need HID harness, Error Eliminator or Adaptor cables?

Does someone have DIY install instruction for the HID kit?

So would the 35 watt, 4500k, H11 be sufficient for a nice white factory look?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you

I went ahead and bought the relay harness. It was only $20 and I figured better safe than sorry. There is an excellent install write-up at MengMotorsports where I bought my lights. http://stores.mengmotorsports.com/images/hid+manual.pdf They said they have a youtube video of the install too, but I didn't watch it.

BTW I'm liking mine better now. I don't know if they've grown on me or there is a break-in period for the ballasts, but they seem much brighter now. Even with my brights on I can tell the blue-ish HID's are really lighting up the signs along the road.
