I believe you will because I think the scion double dins are a little wider than the aftermarket ones! Also just a side note I think it is funny in the description of that head unit the first paragraph says it has a 6.1" display and second paragraph says it is a 7" display lol.

Chris, you like the AVH-P4400BH better? It's twice as much so a bit out of my range.

Here's something I wonder: if I have dude wire up my current head unit, could a head unit swap be super simple down the road if I want to make the $200 upgrade?

You might look here at the Crutchfield specials.

Some Crutchfield prices are high, but they sometimes have good specials and sales. They also include installation kits (wiring harnesses, mounting brackets, etc.) as well as provide lifetime tech support.

If you have a smart phone, you might want something like one of these too (of course one that matches the HU you choose and phone you have).

You can also find some decent prices if you go somewhere like BestBuy.com and click on clearance. Then select a local store and see what they have in the open-box or close-outs.

Oh and don't forget, if you are changing your speakers you will need mounting plates. Your installer may be able to wire your speakers to still use the tweeters that are in the sail panels by the side mirrors.

You could always make your own out of plastic cutting boards or mdf (be sure to seal mdf with epoxy or paint) if you are handy and have tools.
For my rear doors I made my speaker mount adaptors from 3/4" thick particle board. If I had to do it over, I'd use 3/4" thick MDF. The paint is a good idea.

LOTS of good info here, thanks all

zinger, I've heard a lot about those "overpriced cables" but that actually looks extremely awesome. Do you have that setup?

one other question- Pioneer AVH-P4400BH, did that user post that model because this one fits without a dash kit? I could see how that looks a lot better. That'd maybe change my mind.

Someone one scion life has the 4000 for sale. I'd guess that is the previous model. You might message him about the fitment. I'd bet any aftermarket will need a dash kit though.

if they have the same pin connections then YES. you can always pull up a pdf on both models and i would imagine they would be the same.

i have been installing audio for years on all kind of cars and something i look for is my RCA output volts 4v or higher just for way better sounds when connecting a amp for highs or bass. also a head unit with many eq options is a +++ just to get better sounds to the stock speakers. IMO
