I want to change my shift knob but is there an aftermarket boot retainer adapter if I just want to keep the stock boot or something?

Not that I know of but you can always remove the lower portion of the stock know and use it as a transition piece between the boot and the new knob. I did it with mine when I first changed my knob. Later I found other knobs that had a wide enough base or adapter that came with them. Last one I had custom made to the diameter I wanted at the base.

When I replaced mine with the TRD leather one, I took the suggestion on the site and got a lid for the garbage disposal and cut the top off, drilled a hole in it and placed over the shifter stick and then the knob. It fits great and no body knows what it is.

Thanks for responses, it looks like the stock one is one piece so you'd have to cut off and paint the bottom and try that? Or try the suggestions here.

Here is mine. I bought a shift boot from redlinegoods and I bought the adapter and knob off of ebay from sickspeed.

When I got the adapter, I measured the diameter of where the leather sits in the groove and asked redline if I could have a specific diameter (can't remember but it was smaller than stock). When all the pieces arrived, I took apart the stock knob and restapled the boot in the plastic housing.

Thanks U2BROTHR I've been wondering where you've been I haven't see you post in awhile. Are you happy with the xB, now that you have it awhile?

I'm about to order a knob from twistedshifterz.com & a retainer they have I hope works. Sickspeed have nice knobs too but I wanted a certain color combo.

I may order a body color spray can and paint the interior silver pieces when the weather is nicer.

Hi NYxB. I've been too busy being a new father ;)

Just to let you know, the retainer that is on the stock boot is a goofy white circle. The stock shifter ( you will see when you screw it off) sits flush on top of that white disc.

By replacing the boot and getting a specific hole size on the top of the boot to fit in the groove of a new adapter, I was able to eliminate any gap between the knob and the shift stick. (make sense?)

Good luck. Post pictures when you are done.

The xB is doing the job. I love the spaciousness of it. It has been handling well in the snow with my winter tires. I just don't have the money to mod it like I want to at the moment. Hopefully soon!

I hear you on all those points! We've been getting a lot of snow and the b is pretty Good. On my list is a knob, attempting to paint my silver interior pieces and aftermarket oem style spoiler. I think your car is on Amazon in that shift boot xB post.

Thanks all. And Greg it looks like the stock boot cover is screwed to the stock knob, is that correct? I'll try that and see if it works with a new knob. Thx.

The stock boot cover isn't screwed on. It has a white plastic piece that bites into a groove on the shaft with the inside circle. The outer circle of course has the top of the boot encompassed over it.
