Thanks!

Another question has come up: Where can my dad obtain a map of the fuse box? The fuse for his cigarette lighter seems to be blown, but opening up the fuse box and looking at the diagram inside the cover did not seem to shed any light on which fuse is linked to the AC outlet/cig lighter.

In other news, my dad was in town with the car again yesterday. This was the first time I saw it in daylight, and the squarish exhaust tip struck me as being somewhat aftermarket looking. I got down on the ground, and sure enough, it had the letters "TRD" on the side!

So this is great, not only did the previous owner absorb the cost of putting a cold air intake on that car, but it's also got an aftermarket exhaust. I'm guessing it's a cat-back system, but for all I know, it could be just the muffler and exhaust tip.

That certainly explains the throaty growl at full throttle. Dad let me drive it again, and the power was more than adequate.

Yes, that looks like the same exhaust he has. If it's axle-back, rather than cat-back, does that imply that it's less of an upgrade? Or is everything between the axle and the cat efficient enough that there would be no point in replacing it?

Is it technically efficient enough? Yeah probably. Technically the car is efficient stock, but the upgrades make it a little more efficiently fun. Do you have an aftermarket header? Depending on where you live that would be my next step. Some allow to keep the cat and some remove it because it inhibits the airflow. Here you can remove the cat entirely and theres no regs on it.

I don't think just changing the piping from the cat back would make a big difference unless it has holes in it or is just old and worn out since your car is probably pushing the same air flow through the back end as it always has, although I may be wrong on that and would be interested to hear others input.

So, any word on where my dad can get a map of the fuse box? As I said, the diagram under the fuse box cover doesn't specifically say which fuse controls the AC outlet/cigarette lighter, and that's the one he needs to replace.

Thanks!

Did you check the fuse box under the dash? Next to your left foot on the driver side, assuming your driving on the left side. It may be down there, I haven't looked in a while but I know I had one bad one for a stereo down there once.

I'm pretty sure the TRD exhaust mostly replaces the stock muffler with a high-flow muffler - some other axle-backs like the Borla actually eliminate the rear muffler.
