Last time, I posted, I stated my MPG is 26 (that's all in the CITY). Now, after 1050 miles on synthetic oil, I checked my multi-info display, and it's saying 28.3 MPG (that's still all in the CITY)!

that great! What mileage did you switch over to synthetic oil? My mpg is at like 22, and i have less than 5000 miles on my super white and want to switch.

My xB2 also have less than 5K, and I switched to synthetic at 1050 miles on the odometer.

The accuracy of the computer's MPG has been debated . . .
I'm not convinced either way. In theory, it should be better, measuring gas flow through the injectors, odometer, and so forth. Also, there are factors affecting the gas pump readings too, which would affect.
Either way, it is decently close.

nice! i'm currently on 25.9 with just the weaponr sw intake.
I have that intake for my 2004 Hyundai Elantra. That's the one with two tubes right (tube within a tube). I love it!

The trip computer on mine shows a bit more mpg than what I calculate doing the math but I am still getting 28+ on the road w/synthetic oil. The trouble I have in town is that my foot usually ends up in the radiator, which hampers the best mpg that is obtainable with my box. :innocent:

I changed my oil at 3000 miles to synthetic oil mobil 1 to be exact but did not notice any improvement in mileage after 5000 miles i switched back to regular oil because of price should i have waited longer before switching back?

In my perspective, synthetic OC is well-worth it! Longer engine life and higher MPG are always good.

The intake changes are not what caused the MPG drop. Your foot is responsible for that :)!

I just got my 09 xB last week--it was a left over auto show car the dealer had so I got it at a steal. I had him change the oil (only 222 miles) because the car was on the lot more than 6 months and I didn't want to drive it home the 800 miles on old oil. I also have an 02 Hyundai Elantra GT and I have used nothing but synthetic oil since day 1 and have had great results, especially mpg. You can go longer on oil changes to. I have never had a drop of oil leakage with it but just recently noticed a small wet spot around one screw on the valve cover--oh,and I have 132,000 miles on it! I plan to use synthetic in the xB for ever too. One thing they say is to never change oils more than one grade if using for a long time. I.E. going from synthetic to semi-synthetic is ok but not to regular oil, and vice versa, going from regular to semi is ok, but not reg to full synthetic...the possibility of leakage is greater. Also there are some new oils for cars with over 75k on them which they say if you use that oil don't ever switch over to a synthetic or synthetic blend or you will develop leakage like never before. it is recommended to change mobil 1 synthetic every 10k. if you were concerned about price, what did you hope to gain by switching back?

I just kind of got 2009 xB and I am baffled with MPG (23MPG the whole way does not change if I drive on highways or not) is there anything else that would help with MPG?

there are alot factors to consider when maximizing your mpg. it could be the gas you're burning, dirty MAF sensor, dirty filter, dirty throttle body, tire pressure, driving habits, just to name a few.

i was burning Wal-Mart gas and only getting 24mpg. after eliminating every possible factor that i could think of, i switched to a better fuel, mpg rose to 26mpg in the city. now it's 27 - 28. it was the gas! now i know why it was so cheap. i got what i paid for. an extra 4mpg X 12 gallons translates into roughly $7 savings per tank.

all of these factors work in concert with each other to maximize the performance your vehicle. it's important to me to always maintain my B, so when something usual happens, troubleshooting the issue is minimized.

from this site i learned how to clean my MAF sensor, air filter, throttle body, and maintaining good tire pressure. there some thread on gas quality as well. i've also adjusted my driving habits to this engine and electronic tranny.

all of these things working together increases mpg.
