It's a manual with the only options being the floor mats and the Scion stencil on the rear bumper.

A few questions:
- 1st gear seems really low...I sometimes start in 2nd gear...any problem with that?
- Is there a Factory Service Manual online (PDF) that I can download?

I would highly recommend NOT starting out in second gear. You run the risk of premature wear on your clutch. First gear is there for a reason.

That being said, the idle RPM is extremely low at about 600, which makes it difficult to guage how fast to let out the clutch. Pair that with a lag in response time from the accelerator pedal to the throttle, and it's tough to get going somtimes. I've had my manual xB for almost 2 years now, before that nearly 30 years experience of driving stick, and I STILL stall out on occasion.

"Stick" with it, it does get easier.
Here's what bugeye was talking aobut:

personally I only start in 2nd when I wanna race or if I wanna make every stop light into a starting line. 1st is always preferred when cruising.
???
For the record I use 1st gear everytime I start out....and when I want to I can smoke the tires in 1st and squeal them in 2nd!
So what is this starting out "in 2nd when I wanna race" thing?

i don't use second when racing, my engine seems to have too hard of a time getting up. so i use first, but i have to watch my tires, or the smoke.
