Today discovered a new noise that is driving me INSANE. It seems to be coming from the rear-view mirror, sounds like a little metal ball bouncing around. Any idea what it might be? It gets louder with speed and goes from a bouncing sound to a rattle. Constantly. Something definitely came loose or something but what can it be?

Nope, no overhead or dvd players either. All stock!

It comes from the upper center area, which makes me believe it is the rear-view mirror... Ugh, i just didn't want to have to take it to dealer but I guess I may not have a choice.

I had a noise, could not figure out where or what it was. Turned out it was my license tag rattling against the body of the car. Fortunately, I have a "fix-it" hubby. It's always disconcerting when a new vehicle makes a noise we can't identify.

I've had a squeek in my car since I got it. The car has been in the shop twice now to get it fixed and it keeps coming back. It happens whe I press the clutch in. I get a squeek when the clutch goes in every single time. No squeek on the way out. Sounds like plastic on plastic squeeking. When the car goes in for it's 5k service I'm having them look at it again. This is the only issue I have with the car. Drives me absolutly insane.

I had a rattle that was very faint at first and started getting louder & louder. Couldn't figure it out, happened mostly on bumps even small ones on the road. Turned out my sway bar came loose. Sure did scare me til then. Was like a 5 min. fix.

I forgot! I did once but it was the best car ever! LOL The last 3 were Fords and they didn't make noises but everything seemed to fall off them, the engine, the trany, the water out of the radiator, the starter. Never again.

Do you have an overhead console?
Yeah, i love my overhead console-but one of its downfalls is the RATTLE. Whenever i have my Kicker L5 Kickin, the cd cases in my overhead shake and raddle, and sometimes i put my hand on it to stop the rattle.

Still love being able to carry like 10 cds and shades while keeping the interior sleek.

I have it on GOOD authority that there is a TSB on a rattle clicking sound from the windshield/headliner area. It involve removing a piece of the windshield spacers used when installing the windscreen and slightly modifying the lip of sheet metal near the edge of the windscreen. This requires partial removal/dropping of the headliner. Dealers aren't really talking about this, but it is out there.
FYI......check the wiper cowl area for debris. stones or acorns or other flotsam and jetsam. I had a small round plastic airsoft pellet sitting in this area that would rattle like crazy, but was too small to clear itself.

Cheers

Speaking of that plastic cowling, I had a clicking noise that sounded like it was coming from the "A" pillar, passengers side by the windshield/dash area. This started 6 weeks after I bought my xB in Aug. 07, thought that it was the dreaded "A" pillar TSB fix that was needed, but I didn't want them taking my car a part and I just lived with it. Last night I read on another site where a person was having a clicking noise which was coming from the wiper cowl piece where it touches the windshield and the fix was to put some light lube under the cowl piece and let it soak down between the piece and the windshield.

I tried this last night and the clicking noise is gone! I am going to keep an eye/ear open to see if it returns, if it does, it 's an easy fix. I just sprayed the lube from the can lightly (used the red plastic straw) and let it soak behind the plastic.

I used white lube, you could probably use WD-40 or something along that line. Since you only use a little and it is at the bottom of the windshield you shouldn't have any problem with the lube going up on the windshield. Just wipe off what is left on the outside of the plastic.

FYI

Just to clarify, would you be willing to get a picture or photoshop an existing picture showing exactly where you placed the oil? Anything is worth a try!

I am out of town until the middle of next week. On the outside of the vehicle, put your hand on the windshield, move your hand downward until your hand touches the plastic piece that is touching the windshield, that is where I put the lube, right along the edge where the plastic touches the windshield. The lube will go under the plastic and between the windshield or use your finger to slightly lift up on the plastic edge if needed. Just wipe off any extra lube on the plastic or the windshield. I sprayed very lightly along the edge of the plastic, just enough for the lube to seep down.

I really thought that the noise was coming from inside the dash until I stood outside the vehicle and with the passenger door open I pushed on the plastic piece while listening inside and I could hear the noise was coming from the piece I was pushing on at the bottom of the windshield. With the door open you can put your head inside and your arm around to the outside to reach the plastic piece in the lower corner of the windshield outside.

I'll post a picture next week if you still need to see exactly where I am talking about.

I believe that your problem is with the rubber hood bumpers. You can just lift up the hood, turn the bumpers counterclockwise about 1/2 turn each and the noise should stop. Others have had this problem and raising the rubber bumpers up took care of the noise.

Good luck!
