Has anyone installed a light in the panel on the rear hatch? so when you open the hatch the light would shine down, I was thinking LED's Great for loading gear and what not. What would I tap into? I know nothing about wiring.

You can look through this thread.

I posted a picture in this thread of the led's I put overhead in my cargo area. They really light it up and are barely noticeable. I also bought an led panel from oznium.com to replace the existing cargo light (and the dome and map lights too).

For power I just ran wires through the headliner down the side (c-pillar) panel and tapped into the wires for the existing cargo light. The lights come on automatically when you open the hatch. You can also turn them off using the rocker switch on the factory cargo light.

One note about wiring leds...if you reverse the wires they won't work so make sure they turn on before you put everything back together to make sure you don't need to swap the wires. :)

I also added some more led's. I located mine in the head liner and ran the wires down to the switch. I got the light panel from Salvos auto store for about $20. It took about 15 mins. to install. I took my time, didn't want to mess up.

I got some Cobb led drl's for my cargo area. They don't seem to light up very bright off the existing cargo light power. My guess is that it isn't 12v. As running off a 12v power supply they are super bright. Any ideas on how to get 12v to them but still retain the switching when the trunk is closed? Will a relay work off less than 12v?

Weird. I have 3 sets of led's running from the cargo light. They are all very bright. Did you put a multimeter on it to check the voltage? Does it get brighter if you start the car?

I'm going to put a multimeter on it tomorrow. I checked it once it got dark and it is pretty bright now. Usable for sure. Don't mind the mess in the back :) Vehicle Trunk Car Family car Compact car

FYI, the LEDs are on the ceiling between the clips that hold the rear headliner up. You can't see them in this photo. None of the light is contributed by the stock light other than the yellow glow you see.

Yeah, I put mine on the headliner too. This is one of my more useful mods.

In the photo it looks like they really stand out. I actually never see them though. I suppose I could always mask the actual led's and hit it with some gray paint.
