I am really interested in getting some sort of drawer or cabinet enclosures that are secure enough to withstand most theft attempts (smash and grab opportunists). There isn't much room to work around with, but it would be nice to be able to store all my emergency tools, firearms, etc. in this unit. It would also need to somehow work a spare tire into the mix. Preferably, a full size OEM wheel/tire.

I usually roll around with the rear seats down (for the dog), so I'm sure there is something out there that might fit with a little fab work. But, I really do need to be able to fold the seats up now and then without having to remove the whole unit, as well as leaving my tools and roadside emergency stuff behind.

Something like this would be great if they made it in mini-size for the xB hatchback area.



I was wondering if anyone had a good storage solution they are using or one that I should check out. Ultimately, I'm thinking this will have to be a custom job, which I just don't have time to do.

If your interested in mounting a full-size spare higher (above the current floor), that opens up the hole stock tire well for tools and parts. If kept under the floor level, no-one need know it's there. Also, a more complex cabinet could be fabricated for that area, w/ an opening top/vehicle floor.
If you do that, the full-size tire will need a custom mount somewhere in the back, but I've no-idea where you could do that.

Oh, and if you want to bolt anything down above the floor, the bolt for each of the tie-down D-rings would be perfect.

Now, as for a tool-chest, any 38" wide chest that is shallow enough (20-18" depending on height) will fit in and all you need is to bolt it into those bolts (or tie it to the D-rings).

I've found a quality bollard shop in my local town, maybe you'd like to give them a shot. Very effective with my security.
