To all with a RS 5.0 -

Have any of you installed splash guards or are using a CAI?

I was told by a Scion dealer that both the splash guards (due to the body kit) and TRD CAI (due to the unusable bumper vent) are not recommended for the RS 5.0.

So, which CAI are you running and have you had any issues?

And, if you did install splash guards, did you have to modify them at all?

Bummer on the "unusable bumper vent"....I'd go with a "short" CAI like the Weapons R...at least you would not need to worry about "hydro locking" in the event of hight water...

Yeah the mud guards arent gonna work and aren't worth the effort to mod. The only CAI that won't work is the TRD one. All others will work just fine. I run the K&N typhoon short ram.

If the TRD CAI "won't work" because the driver's side inlet vent (in the bumper) will not take the TRD inlet vent then it doesn't make sense to install any CAI that draws its air from the same area as the TRD CAI...so a short ram would make sense. (I haven't looked at the "mock vent" on the Release Series...but are you sure that it is not the same as a non-Release Series?)

The RS bumper kit mounts over the existing bumper. I discovered this when I installed my fog lights.
So, you have the inlet piece that can be popped out from the original bumper. But, then you have a black sticker that simulates the inlet on the RS bumper. I guess if you were handy, you could cut the RS bumper and fit the inlet piece in there, but that is too much work. And knowing my luck, I would probably mess it up.
I'll just go with a short ram kit.

There is a difference. The TRD has a filter box that mounts and attaches to the vent in the bumper. So its only airflow is from that vent that is covered by the RS lip kit. However a standard CAI thats not ram air sits down in there but can draw the air from inside the bumper area that gets some decent flow and is nice and cold. The K&N that I have is a short ram with a heat shield. It works awsome.
