First of all, welcome to the forum.Sounds like you have been very busy. There are many that would like to add more b/u lights to their xB's.Some have thought about moding with '11 tails, and I think that one would have to seperate the light circuits to operate all the lamps. Because you mentioned that you had worked in harness building, you might shed some of your opinions on this as far where to get the connections and what connectors might have to be added.
Thanks,Dale

Wiring response:

My expertise will lead in the direction of mobile e stuff like t-harnesses, CANBUS, Resistive controls (like that of Scion, Ford, Toyota) GMLAN data 11 bit 29 bit. But I will try to be of assistance. I do build harnesses from time to time for other purposes. Looking for a place to get great selections on harnesses? Try Mouser Electronics, but this is a site full of toys for guys like me. The connector I use most often is the brand Molex and the product is the Microfit, black 2 row.

By the way the reason I wanted a members thread forum was so we could edit it. This forum feels like a child built it.

Yes I do have extensive knowledge building harnesses but not the ones your thinking of per say. I built T-harnesses for car audio, J-box systems for heavy equipment, Steering system controls for CANBUS cars and accessory harnesses for fun. Mouser Electronics is where I go to get the best harnesses. CWB is another great place too.

The reason I ask, I used to work for a co. that built stuff for the DOD. One of the jobs I had was in the harness room. Our diagrams for harness could at times be 6ft. long and 4ft. high.In those days,we didn't have zip ties but something called lacing cord. It had to be tied in a continuing length and was **** on ones hands. Some of those harnesses could be up to 2" in dia., and weighed a lot when completed. All of this was many years ago. Thank god for zip ties!

I noticed you listed that you have installed a b/u cam. Where did you place it and what did you connect the 12v. to? Where is the cam screen located in the car? Do you have any pic's?
Thanks,Dale

i put mine where the rear wiper used to be. havent hooked it up yet but will probably tap into reverse light so camera automatically fires up in reverse. i have a Pioneer Avic D3 for a monitor although i believe the Alpine will display it as well.

here is the system that came out of the Elantra.

All but the front speakers are going into this ride. I am trying to decide on 3 way Eclipse or Hi-Vi D630 3-way Autosound System. The Hi-Vi is a better system, but is a lil' more money. This is the link. I buy almost all my speakers here as many audiophiles do. Check out the Tymphany stuff.

The a/d/s amp is 55 watts into 6 channels and the Boston is 1000 watts RMS into 4 ohms and 1400 watts RMS into 2 ohms. RMS is continuous power. The a/d/s amp requires 2 eash 8 gauge power and ground and is fused with 2 30 amp fuses for operation. The Boston requires 2 each 4 gauge power and ground wires and is fused with a 130 amp fuse. I will also be running a 800 watt power inverter for my laptop and chair massager.

By the way: Peak is a b.s. number that almost NEVER HAPPENS. Peak isn't real, its not CEA Compliant either. If you have an amp that says its peak power on the amp; like printed on the body, chances are good it is a lie to get you to buy it. People are impressed by big nuymbers and good spelling.

I have been in and out of the audio scene for many years. Back in the day I used to be a big Orion and Cerwin Vega fan. Funny how things change over the years, you hardly think of either brand as high quality anymore.

I am using Memphis right now and I am impressed with the SQ. But soon I will likely be changing things up a bit. I won't ever go back to the huge systems of years ago but I still like it loud.

That looks like you are going to have a very nice setup. I have never been a big fan of Kicker but I know the L7's beat pretty hard. Just one 12 or are you going to go with two? What are you doing for a box? I am still thinking about a custom glassed one for mine.

0 guage wire, an alternate use could be welding railing part time, just saying. This system will be amazing!

im just happy the alternator is 1oo amps, because that will help. For backup power I am building a battery box that will besunk into the floor of the spare tire compartment. In addition there will be 2 1 farad caps as well. I debated about getting a batcap or a cap bank like this one in the link below but the Shuriken 950 cranking amp car audio battery and 2 one farads were fine on the last car.
here is the link for my Shuriken: SHURiKEN SK-BT35 (SKBT35) 950 Amp 35 AH Car Battery Power Cell
here is the link for the cap bank

Well yesterday I started removing the rear panels in the car in order to start the sound deadening and rattle control. I started with one of my dearest, most loved old friends. We have spent alot of time together and done work on Porche, Lexus, Toyota, Scions, Acura, Hondas; alot of those and others. I wanna introduce you to my little friend.

This stuff is one of the best sound deadening agents, ever. I have used it for over a decade to seal hidden cargo areas, creases, chambers and pillars too. It weighs nothing, its fire retardent and it floats. LOVVVEE this stuff. I use the regular and triple expanding. Be careful of 3 things.
1. it will permenantly stain any fabric on contact
2. likes to move alot, especially through holes. Duct tape is your friend too.
3. although rare, has been known to crack, plastic, fiberglass and bend metal. Its never happened to me or any of my customers over 11 years.

Like any tool it should be used for the correct job:
A, B, C pillars
corners
edges
big open chambers
trunk lids

Its cheap too. Too much stuff? cut it out.

For sound deadening I exclusively use Raamaudio.com BXT II and the Ensolite with the self adhesive. You could sound deaden a car with just Ensolite and make a huge difference. Best of all Rick (Owner) sells this stuff (ALL) cheap. It's also endorsed by Harmon International, they use to use Dynamat, but now Raamaudio has the contract. Its simply better and far cheaper. I have been using them since 2004. I had been using Cascade and Dynamat since 1995.
