I have a 17" chrome rim that is starting to peel on the inside of the rim where you would mount the tire. This was causing the tire to leak because it wasn't sealing itself properly to hold air.

My question is would this rim be repairable? Would I be able to do it myself or would I have to get the whole rim re-chromed or just the inside of the rim? Would it be worth it?

Also, getting another rim of the same kind if out of the question because I already looked it up, but the rim is discontinued.

When I worked at Firestone I used to see this all the time. Its actually what turned me off to chrome rims. It is deff fixable tho and very easy if you have the right tools. Basically what is causing the air to leak is the chrome bubbling on the inner lip of the rim, where the rubber from the tire meets the wheel. What you want to do is grind that chrome off with some sandpaper until its nice and smooth. If your doing this by hand it might take a while but with the tool it takes me just a minute or two. Then you take some "bead sealer" which is like tire glue and put it on the metal u just sanded and on the part of the tire that meets the wheel to for the "bead". That's it. Just inflate the tire again and your good to go. I never ever had any comebacks. Hope this helped!
