All my accessory-cargo stuff was put-to-use. If I wanted, I probably could have mounted the basket (w/ overhang) and carried more, but trying to limit the inherent drag.

With all that, I got 23-24 MPG at 75-ish MPH, when travelling. Not bad!

So I read through most of these threads and am looking to pick up a roof rack for storage on a long trip across the country. Im just curious what kind of noise issues have you guys had with different brands and how they are assembled ?

I've only experiences the Yakima round bars on an xB. On that:
Bars only, quite loud.
The "wing" small thing- quieter, but still loud.
Fairing: forget it's there. I've got the "stock" yakima one and a modded-to-fit thule one. They both work similar, but haven't head-to-headed them in a good while.

With a wide basket (I have the extended Rage "Stingray"): forget it's up there
--- just don't run the basket AND a fairing. That makes a loud combo.

My "normal" barred run set ups are:
-Basketcase, set between the bars (40.5" center to center spread), and fairing
-Stingray basket and (sometimes) a Raptor or Boa bicycle mount

Right now, the rack is off, as it isn't needed right now and for economy.

Oh, and the rack DOES effect economy, with a larger increase with higher speeds (drag).
The more "streamline" shapes, that do not need a fairing, make less economy impact (lower drag) when ran bare.
