I have a couple of shift console questions.

First, how the hell do you get into it? I"m afraid I'll break something if I start prying on panels. I need to install a new shift boot but I can't figure out how to get the face off.

Second - the existing console face is cheap and ugly. Anyone make an aftermarket improvement? (my xB is a stick).

Thx!

Bingo - found instructions here:

http://www.redlinegoods.com/ScionxB08install.shtm

It was vastly easier than I expected. Now I almost wish I'd bought my shift boot from redline since they had the best instructions!

However, the one I got from http://shiftstyle.com/ is gorgeous and fits nicely, so all's well. Though it will look a lot more *done* when I get my shiff knob from koolknobs.

(pics coming when I get the new knob, hopefully next week)

I'm getting one of his pre-made knobs (the rattlesnake!) because I just couldn't decide what to have embedded (too many ideas!).

I didn't see the e-brake boots until AFTER I ordered the shifter; they do look great.

I also decided that, rather than replacing my shift console, I was going to have my resident artist (ie, wife) paint flames on it. That should be finished today. It's looking pretty damn cool.

Ok, here's the first try at custom painting. This was learn-as-you go time, but I think it turned out pretty good.

This is with a ShiftStyle custom boot, but the stock shif knob until my KoolKnobs order shows up.

Re: shift console, plus knob

Got my shift knob from Bruce at Kooknobs. Here are a couple images. The shifter isn't custom, it's one of Bruce's stock ones.

The second one is a side view with the boot pushed down to get a good view of the spacer Bruce made me. I'm not actually sure I need it but it looks really cool and gives the shifter a finished look.

That does look good! What kind of paint did she use?

Since it's plastic, we figured model paint would work reasonably well (and we happened to have some around). It was kind of an experiment, since I'd originally planned to replace it (or paint it solid black).

I'm pretty happy with the result. Since it's SO EASY to take out it's easy to monkey with it. If I get tired of the flames I can just replace the part and switch it out. The shift boot just snaps out so changing it's a breeze.
