Space under rear seat

So, looking at the rear seats in my XB, there appears to be space underneath the seats (at least it looks that way looking at the holes in the plastic). Is there a way to access that space without having to unbolt the seats from the car, or is it just wasted space?

I have noticed the same thing. If the plastic compartment is removable after you take out the rear seat maybe a fold down type door could be fab'ed instead of the hump part of the front of the plastic storage compartment.

Yeah, that wouldn't be too bad. I'm thinking of a place to mount a small handgun safe.
You may find the compartment not varied enough, for that reason and use I would remove it completly and make my own. There is a site that offers custom and already made hand and riffle storage, some very discrete and safe. I will add the site to the next post.
Check out this site, in the law enforcement section you may find something or in the under seat storage.

The 2008-2010 has a plastic tray under the rear seat, but the 2011-2013 has only carpet.

You may already know this, but in case you don't...be very careful if you drill holes into the sheet metal under your rear seat. Underneath that sheet metal, outside the car, is the plastic gas tank. Wouldn't want any holes in that...

That would be handy!! I keep mine in the center console, perfect size it just doesn't lock. I also wish the xb had one of those flip down cases for your sun glasses like my other car..

Overhead console would solve that one, but it's a bit pricey.
